Best 49 key midi controller to work with Tracktion and Kontact

I am looking to by a midi controller with 49 keys to work with Tracktion and I know that some have better templates or need less work to make them work with specific DAWs. I don-t know which ones work well with Tracktion. Pads are not really that important to me as I have a Korg PadKontrol for that side of things, but my old keyboard controller is way past old and I have just moved back to using Tracktion again so wanted to choose something that works well. What has been your experience perople?

I recently bought a Nektar Impact LX49 and have only used a bit thus far, but it seems pretty solid. There is a control surface template for Tracktion downloadable from Nektar. The keys are a little noisy, but everything is functional, and there are a number of internal calibrations for keyboard and pad sensitivity, which is nice. I wouldn't say that I was blown away by it or anything, but I think it's a solid value for the money if you're just doing some sequencing and light mixing duties.

Just got a Samson Graphite 49 and so far its been a worthwhile buy, especially considering the price of it ( £80 - UK ) its very customisable.

I've used an M-Audio Keystation 49 for several years, now, and been thoroughly satisfied with it. Best $69 I ever spent for MIDI-related activities.

Yes, Max I think that would be my use, Some sequencing and light mixing. Does the control surface template work well or is it one that has been adapted and doesn't completely function? I read that there was a work in progress a while back but didn't realize that they had finished a template.

From what I can tell, the Nektar template works pretty seamlessly. The transport controls all work fine. There are buttons on the keyboard to toggle between different map modes. Mix mode assigns faders to level controls and knobs to pan, so you can mix the first 8 tracks in the sequencer straight away. There is also an instrument mode that supposedly assigns knobs to primary VST parameters, but I haven't toyed with it. The last mode allows you to do custom mapping as you would traditionally expect. Modwheel works as expected.

Please keep in mind that I come from a click-and-drag, mouse-based DAW control upbringing, so I can't speak to how more discerning electronic musicians may find the nuances of the Impact. For my purposes though, it has been quite functional.

The Graphite has many templates too including a Tracktion one, as I dont use tracktion I couldnt tell you how well it works though but pretty much any control on the keyboard can be mapped to anything.
Have only recently got it so havent fully explored yet.

I'm not sure if you've tried automap, but I use my novation SL61 mark i and a zero SL for keyboard and mixer. I like it, and it's pretty neat. Wiring the zero SL as a controller is a little weird but it works okay. What I'm saying is, novation SL49 mkii might be a cool keyboard ;)
