Update: the 'speed' parameter fixes this, this thread can be ignored. Thanks!

Hi there,

the discussion of using the pitch following modulator to control an oscillator showed up a major problem I have with pitch tracking in melda modulators. There is no glide between detection. It only plays semitone notes and switches between them in hard cuts. Slowing down the 'stabilization' control just slows down the detection, and actually makes the problem more obvious as you hear the notes just holding and changing to the next note instantly. Speeding up the stabilization works makes the problem less obvious but at very fast speeds you start getting distortion.

Can i suggest a glide control, that allows the user to smooth the changes between notes. This will create smoother, more natural and click-free playback of pitch.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks!

I thought there was a smoothness parameter.

You're absolutely right, apologies. I misunderstood the 'speed' parameter. I'll edit the original post.

How does it sound? I'm going to try this out too, when I get time. Would like to share an MXXX preset if you have one? Just copy and paste the text here, maybe?

Well, it's okay. The issue is that a pure sine wave is way too dull and morphing against the original doesn't leave much (obviously), so you need to add a bunch of overtones... which then starts sounding a bit weird. I think the key is finding the right sort of oscillator shape and then changing the shape over time to create some movement in the oscillator, which will hopefully result in a more interesting morph.

I haven't actually made an MXXX preset yet as I haven't had time to do more than a quick mess around with the above. Someone brought some axes into the studio for me to make sound effects with, so I've been busy with them :D It is however really easy to create though, just drop in an oscillator and set up a couple of modulators, one for pitch, one for volume... only takes about a minute to create. The key will be getting the oscillator right.
