Now, re-listening after 6 years, I wish that the guy (drummer/producer), had treated the drum sounds. Especially the snare sounds pretty horrible, wrong frequencies up.
Drumming is OK, although in some songs he didn’t manage to nail the distinctive elements, e.g. in Day Tripper, distintive element is the tight bass drum - snare pattern starting in the intro after the tambourine).

I always wondered due to the times and attitudes toward rock and roll back then if the "a" was an intentional play
