Some Receptor Questions...Including Compatibility Of Logic EXS24 Instruments via Kontakt

Hi folks, support at Muse suggested i post these questions here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seriously considering getting a Receptor to avoid using a Mac on stage and ensure maximum stability and min

- A lot of the sounds are use are in the Logic EXS24 sampler and i've heard that it's possible to open these in Kontakt. If so, would this be a way to run EXS24 instruments in Receptor?

- Can i combine a Motu firewire/usb 2 interface with a Receptor to expand the available outputs for routing different synths to different outputs?

- Is Datsounds Obxd plugin compatible with Receptor?

- How future proof are the earlier Rev C models? Does the Mac editor work with Rev C and can these models run all the latest plugins or are there compatibility issues?

- The setup i'm hoping to pull off with Receptor is to be able to treat each preset as a "song" so that some instruments/synths are always selectable in every song, while some sampler instruments are song specific.

Hi Luca,

Whatever it's worth, that support told you to go to the forum for answers should present you with your first question. I will take a stab at the rest.

I believe that any plugin and sound library has to be formatted to the linux system that Receptor uses. I just learned that Windows format plugins are useable through WINE. Likely, your Logic samples would not be compatible but I could be off on this. HOWEVER!! I believe the same person that created Alchemy on your Logic is the same person that created Alchemy from Camel Audio (now extinct). My T3io came with Alchemy preinstalled and I use it on everything. Check with sales as to whether Camel, Alchemy is still offered as it actually no longer exists (sans your Logic)

My understanding is that the Persons 1818 is coded to use with Receptors Qu4tro, Tr3o, and VIP (possibly not VIP). Others are not compatible. HOWEVER! it is possible, though no longer supported by Muse, to use the Unwire plugin in your DAW and work through a laptop. I have tried this and almost succeeded. (It takes a while and I'd rather make music than bury my head in a computer).

Not familiar with Datsounds but likely a Windows version could be loaded in as an "Unsupported" dll.

There are others that could speak to the Rev C or there are posts to give you clues. Do a search.

The new(ish) Rack Mode of the 4tro, 3io, and VIP are excellent for your last wish, though you would have to rule out using your MOTU with Unwire (again, no longer supported).

Hope this helps. I love my 3io and will be performing with it live over the next two weeks mixing guitar, synths, and samples.

Hello Luca,

A couple of things:

1.) I have been able to install and run (2DATs) OBXD on a Receptor 2+.

2.) Depending on your receptor model (especially if you have a Receptor 1 or 2) you should consider using your ADAT outs as extra outputs. Many other interfaces are compatible with ADAT lightpipe, so this may be a good way to go.

Hope this helps,
Kevin L

@Fishoow and @looneytunes thanks a lot for the info guys. Seems like i won't be able to run either Logic Sampler instruments or a Motu, so a Receptor might not be an option.

Yes! Sorry. I forgot about the optical output. I'm not sure your MOTU has an optical in. If it does, you can get 4 stereo inputs at 96k. My Presonus doesn't have that. I've been looking at the RME UCX. That's a right handy little device. Of course, I still would use that through my bundled (with the Trio) Presonus 1818. With that I can get a full 8-trk live recording.

With the mixing capability of the receptor gui you may not need any extra outputs for live use, just a good control surface or keyboard controller, and as for recording, running instruments through the lightpipe output works great for getting multiple channels into my focusrite scarlett interface. You may be disappointed with the REV c's capabilities-it is definitely an older model.

Luca, I hope you have not bought that receptor yet and that you do not buy it. If you got it from Sweetwater or GC, and you intend to stay a mac user, you need to return it if you are still within the timeframe you can do so. You need to know that Muse has relinquished any and all intentions of supporting their software updates. They have no current plugins you can run and have not updated their software in years. They had confirmed that they will not and are letting their product die.

Your mac will never work with a receptor again, unless you buy a very very old one. But if you are a logic user, you will inevitably wish to update logic which will be a HUGE problem for you. If you want to spend the money, buy a used one for $100 off eBay. The newer ones will not give you any more functionality, since the software has become so outdated. If you go for it, remember that you are stuck with 8 year old plugins.

They were fun units while they lasted, but will become 'vintage' soon. Sad to see them die. :( RIP little receptor.
