LAME mp3 encoder not recognised?

Am using T6 on OSX. I want to export a mix to mp3 directly from T6; I open the Render dialogue and select mp3; it says "download LAME", I click OK, it says "encoder downloaded, you can now export to mp3", but nope. It doesn't seem to recognise that it has downloaded LAME, and when I restart T6, it still doesn't work, and asks for a download again. I have to export my mix to iTunes and encode there, which is a pain.

Any idea what's wrong?

1. Find where your lame .exe file is located and note that location.
2. Go to the 'settings' page in Tracktion, and then 'general behavior'.
3. Find line that says 'Lame location'.
4. Point the browser on that line to the Lame .exe file.

You should be good to go.

I believe Tracktion makes you set this encoder yourself is due to licensing costs if it were otherwise.

Hope this helps -

Does OSX have .exe files ? This is the way you would go about it under windows...

I'd imagine for OSX you'd point the browser at the appropriate LAME application file, whatever it is.

I don't know where Tracktion installs the LAME binary to when you choose to have the program itself download it for you. However this should work:

Go to http://www.thalictrum.com/en/products/lame.html and download the installer package. Unzip and run the LAME 3.99.5 package installer.
Go to the General Settings in Tracktion and for Lame Location point it at /usr/local/bin/lame

Aha! Thanks PapaLazarou, that download looks like it's working. The regular LAME sourceforge download is incomprehensible to me I'm afraid, I'm no coder. Having a ready-made installer is perfect.

And no, trying to find where T6 puts the download when it does it itself is nigh on impossible, I have no idea where it went.

No problem, glad it worked for you :)

FWIW I think I found where Tracktion downloads it to. It seems to be ~/Library/Preferences/com.tracktion.Tracktion4/lame (where the squiggle ~ represents your home folder, usually your name). Not obvious at all really.. Perhaps in a future version they could make it automatically update the location in preferences once it's been downloaded?
