HELP: Lost Input!

Hi! Since updating to El Capitan, I've been unable to input audio into MuLab (v6 and v7). I checked my audio configuration, and everything seems fine. I have a couple other DAWs (GB is one of them, of course), and they work fine. Any advice is appreciated. I'd love to check out v7.

I don't know why. MuLab supports Core Audio. So any Core Audio compatible device should work. Did you check this doc page: http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mulab/recording.html

Something is wrong, but still not sure what.I cannot adjust the direct inputs. They are fixed on "none." Could that be the problem?

You selected the OSX "Built-in output". It does not have any audio inputs.

Hi! I can't seem to access the "Open Aggregate Device Editor"

I go: OSX->Applications->Utilities->Audio MIDI Setup->Audio menu-> but then the image/menu below is all I get. I searched preferences and all the other menus, but I cannot find the Open Aggregate Device Editor. As before mentioned, this happened when I updated to El Capitan. Prior to that, I was able to record audio. Note: I am presently testing without the interface, just using the mic in on the MacBook.

Sounds more like an OSX question than a MuLab question. Can't help with that atm. Any OSX specialists here?

I am not on El Capitan yet (and Apple often changes defaults in an OS upgrade) but my Audio Setup looks the same as yours so.... It could be that the sample rate on your internal microphone is not the same as the sample rate on your built-in input and that resampling is not enabled. To fix, see Utilities>Audio Midi Setup>Help>Audio Midi Setup Help>Change Aggregate Device Settings, e.g. "For your aggregate device to work correctly, all devices in the aggregate device need to have the same sample rate" and after making all sample rates the same, perhaps >Enable resampling just in case. (If that does not work, try reconnecting your audio interface.)

You have to click on the + button at the bottom on the left and choose "Create Aggregate Device"

Also, in your Audio Devices Setup check to ensure all your sample rates are the same.

Thanks! I have created the A Device and the speaker configuration test is a success, but still no mic in sound recording on an audio track in MuLab. Note . . . my other DAWs are fine.

I gather that you want to record on the built in mic using an aggregate device. I just did that, but in 10.8. However I show a Built-in Microphone device in addition to my Built-in (line) Input in my Audio Setup while you do not, so you may want to check your System Preferences> Sound> Input. So, I included both Inputs plus my Interface in my Aggregate Device .
After creating my Aggregate Device, I restarted MuLab so it can recognise the Aggregate Device. Then I created and armed an Audio Track (the Rack Record can be set to Input 1 or Direct). turned on Monitor, went to MuLab>Audio Setup, and next to Core Audio Device, chose Aggregate Device. Clicked OK and immediately Monitored the Built-In Microphone in MuLab. It did not make a difference Monitoring, if in the Rack Recorder I chose to Record From Direct or Input 1.

You're welcome. Your problem with MuLab may be using only the built-in inputs and outputs, and not an external audio interface. You mention that GarageBand works but MuLab does not. GB seems to have its own driver to link the built-ins to CoreAudio. To see for yourself, launch GB with no external audio interface and go into Preferences> Audio/Midi. Select Built-in for both the Audio Input and Output if it isn't already by default. Your audio will come out of your laptop speakers only. Then.... change Audio In/Out to your external audio interface for external speakers. See? GB says it needs to change drivers for each In and Out, one at a time! GB can do that because GB and the mac platform are One. But, if you change MuLab Audio setup to built-in input only, it says 'can't start audio engine.' Perhaps Jo can explain that message. I know that some non-Apple DAWs can and some cannot work with built-ins only.

Because MuLab requires at least a stereo output.
