Tyrell N6 - What does the Mixspr knob do on the bandpass filter?

Hey,

writing a little guide (or you could call it manual :)) for Tyrell, and i'm wondering about a few things. I do get what the mixspread knob does when the multimode lowpass/highpass filter is active, but i noticed that it's also doing something when the bandpass filter is active, and i wonder what that is. Does anyone know? It almost seemed like it would change the "base frequency" of the bandpass filter if that makes sense, but not sure.

I also have a few other questions regarding some functions in Tyrell, but i will keep these for later. Mostly interested in figuring out what that control does to the bandpass filter atm.

Mmmh, I don't hear any effect of the mixspead in BP mode.

There definitely is one, especially if you dial some resonance in, and then set the cutoff to a value of about 80-90, and then play with the Mixspr, it becomes apparent. I really can't figure out what it does. Almost sounds like a vowel filter with higher Mixspr settings.

It seems the MIXSPR is (BP mode) indeed 'spreading' more than 1 cutoffs. In BP mode you can use like a sort of vowel indeed. Correct me if i am wrong :hyper:

My spectrum analyser says you're right. :D Maybe someone can confirm that though.

Will you post it when it's ready?

Very interested! .:)

I will do, but unfortunately it will be in german only for now. I asked Peter from Amazona.de if it's ok when i write a manual for Tyrell, and he said that he'd appreciate it, and that he'd also write a little story about it in the thread about Tyrell there, so it will probably surface there first. I will write a post about it here too though when it's done. Could still take a few weeks though, i would say it's about 1/3 finished, but some things aren't totally clear to me yet, that's also why i asked about the Mixspr and the bandpass filter here. Hope someone can help me out with that. :)

The reason was I had the filter mode to 12 db. :dog:

Indeed, in 24 db mode you have two bandpass filters and in 36 db mode three.

And the mixspread defines the spreading of the BP center freqs.

Usefull for formant and phasing stuff.

Ah! Never had the idea to change the filter poles either. Thanks, that's very helpful. :) And yep, i also noticed the almost "phasing " effect with high resonance.

This is very helpful! I'm also in the middle of writing a manual in English for this synth. Thanks!
I dream of wires! :borg:
