Hi All.
Since Muse is no more and I have my all my gigging eggs in the Vip basket (countless hours of programming and set ups ) I ve been reading about ghosting the hard drive in case of failure, the question is first, the best method, second will I have to reauthorize the software I have. My unit has been perfect for 3 yrs and hope it stays that way. the thought of having to reprogram all the tunes on My Kurzweil K2500R makes Me nausious. Is there another platform for the Mac or Pc that can do something similar to the GUI,other than Using a DAW? I gig just a few times a month using 2 midi controllers and Guitar all through the Vip, makes for a lot less gear to carry. Been using Synths going on 40 yrs, thus by far the receptor lets Me do what every other keyboard Ive ever owned(too many to list)can't do.
any help from You guys would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm with you on the eggs in one basket! There are a few other threads that talk in detail about how to make a clone of your drive, but I am also curious about the question of whether or not vst's would need to be re-authorized. Are most vst's tied to just the motherboard/processor configuration or does the hard drive factor into the device id tied to the vst registration? Do any of the tech wizards on this forum have info on this question? I'm very happy to see other receptor users putting some time and energy into keeping the forum alive.

Mac alternative would be Mainstage, but that's for 64-bit Audio units only, not vsts, so depending on the plugins you use you may face issues (major plugin vendors support both VST and AU formats though)
Windows options include Cantabile or Forte.
(Cantabile is supposed to have a Mac version now or soon.)
Even if you ghost the drive, you would kinda hosed of there were any other hardware problems.
After thinking about this a lot, I'm going to run my Receptor until it's dead, then go with a PC, unless there's a support path at that time.

Hello
you can use a Startech disk duplicator to clone your receptors Hdd this is by far the easiest way.
or use unetbootin with ghost for linux. The source and target drives must in both cases be the same size,or a larger target drive .If you clone from a smaller to a larger drive the clone partitions will be the same size as the source drive when the clone is complete .You can however resisze the clone so that all the space is avalable using partition editing /resizing software.
The awnser to the question about re registering vsts is that.
1.if you clone from an Ssd to an ssd then you do not need to re register vsts.(sounds strange but its true)
2.If you clone from a normal Hdd to an ssd you will have to re register.
3.If you clone from ssd to normal hdd and need to use that clone in an emergency you will need to re register vst.So the best option is Ssd to Ssd.
You may not need to re register all vst,s the ones i knowe for certain are Native instruments stuff and also all Ik multimedia plugins as they are hardware dependent during registration.

Interesting... I didn't have to reregister anything after I cloned my drive using a duplicator similar to the startech. I just put my original HDD in a safe place and installed the new clone in it's place. Everything ran fine right out of the gate. It was a hybrid drive (HDD with a small SSD buffer) which I recommend because you get some advantages of SSD speed without the expense.
Just to clarify, I also have some IK stuff and NI Komplete 9 and they ran fine.
This is on a Receptor 2 Classic with the latest software. Can't speak for other models, so YMMV.
