How do I balance the volume of input signal, and recorded volume?

I'm recording guitar with a HD500X. The input signal is lower than when I arm the track. After recording and I disarm the track the volume drops back to where it was. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here, but do any of you know what it is?
I use different daws, and they all work slightly differently so I'm sure I'm missing something here.

This must be a bug. I guess you are supposed to arm a track to hear it? If I re-start the audio engine, I can hear the signal without it being armed. Then when I arm the track the volume goes up like it's doubling the input. Un-select and then re-select the "treat as stereo pair" and it's back to normal.
Can someone confirm this?

Any chance you're experiencing a feedback loop (but that's below the threshold for it to actually feed back)?

If the track is armed, what is the setting of the "live input monitoring" at the bottom of the Tracktion screen? If enabled, it is sending the output to the "main mix" or whatever you have set.

Now if that is sent out to the pedal/mixer and you happen to be recording from it's main mix output, then it might be doubled. Are there settings off the hd500x that allow you to select what is coming from the USB?

If you really have a mixer in addition to the hd500x, that changes things; and HOW are you listening to the guitar while you record - via tracktion output, or into an amp from the hd directly? If via an amp, you can disable live input monitoring. If via a headphone connection on the hd500x, it's more complicated...

My POD is going into my Presonus 44VSL (I'm not using the POD usb), and I do have input monitoring on. Everything works fine until I have to re-start the audio engine, which I do have to do sometimes...I'm not sure why, but the sounds flakes out sometimes, and that fixes it.
I tend to leave input monitoring on because I may use VSTs or amp sims, and it's easier to just leave that on. I don't have bad latency ever...so it doesn't hurt.

If your interface has mix knob or input monitoring switch your issue is you are monitoring with tracktion live and your interface at zero latency, this can cause you to here doubles.

You can leave the tracktion live input monitoring on and pull your output fader all the way down on the track you have armed. This will record at zero latency from your interface without you hearing it comeback after going threw tracktion.

Now the other way is to turn your mix knob or input monitoring switch on your interface off, or if your interface has a mix control software like the 6i6 mute the inputs on the mix control software to monitor you mix after or post DAW, and this way you can record with plugins on so you get great recordings off the back.

An also remember your plugins come after the recording so the effects from your plugins doing the recording will not be in the audio clip witch is a plus because you always will have your raw audio file. :tu:

My inputs are muted on the Presonus. The problem is described in post #2. It's an oddity.

If your are not direct monitoring from your interface I am lost at this problem. I wish I could replicate this problem to see how to solve it for you. Try it with the live input monitoring off in traction an see what happens.

I have a work around...so it's okay. I just think it's strange that I can hear the input of a track that isn't armed, after re-starting the audio engine. Like I said un-slecting and re-selecting the "treat as stereo pair" fixes it for some reason.

This may just be bugs with the new beta version. I've found a few more and noticed this problem occurs every time I re-boot Tracktion. Arc 2 doesn't save settings...I have to load my preset everytime.
I love the new look, but think I'll revert back to an older version and see if it's the beta causing these glitches.

Live input monitoring doesn't need the track to be armed to come into the mix - it just doesn't record in that situation.

From the manual on the VSL:

Input Phasing While Monitoring in VSL
Verify that the mixer knob on the front of the AudioBox is turned fully clockwise
to the VSL position. If you are using a DAW at the same time as AudioBox
VSL, make sure that the input channel in your DAW has software monitoring
disabled. You will be monitoring through AudioBox VSL, not your DAW

Yes. I get the feeling I'm not explaining myself well or something.

It can be complicated at the start. I struggled at the start, trying to figure out how to use a small mixer to both practice without computer; and then to record one track at a time (plus the fact that the USB on the mixer had noise issues; then the replacement unit USB didn't work most of the time).

I wound up getting another mixer with 2 stereo busses, which makes a world of difference. I have amp/speakers connected to the A main bus pair, and the recording audio fed back into the computer. The output from the computer becomes just another stereo input on a dedicated channel on the mixer. Whatever is piped to the B buss gets recorded.

The thing is, you have to fully understand your signal path - what comes in and which signals coming in to EACH device get fed back out on the same or another one; plus how to control them, particularly the one you're recording at the time. In your case, the guitar pedal really is a raw input only, so wouldn't be the source of the issue.

I have and use 3 daws...everything works fine in the other two. Something strange is happening with this new beta version. I haven't had time to re-install the last T7 and compare, but I will.
I have the inputs muted on the Preesonus and I always use the daw to monitor because I may be using an amp sim (usually the case). I'll test a few more things with a sim, and see if the HD500X is doing something strange. Thanks.

I've done some testing, and this is either the way Tracktion intends it to be, or it's a bug. ARC2 not saving the preset is a bug for sure. I've reported my findings to support...so we'll see what they say.
Tracktion 6, Tracktion 7.1 and Tracktion 7.1.11 all act the same.
They should make me a beta tester! Hahaha!
