I've just been exploring MAGC.

I can see that the Output level will be Input +/- Range (if the Gains are both 0).

When I tried with with a high-level sidechain the Output increased as expected and the Gain meter showed the correct level and numeric value.

But when I tried with with a low-level sidechain the Output decreased as expected and the Gain meter showed the correct level. However its numeric value would not go below -6.02dB. In the second screenshot below it should be -12dB, shouldn't it?

Hmmm, that's odd indeed! I'll check!

It would be handy to have the In / Side / Out / G meters (and time-graphs) in the MXXX/AGC module. Is that possible?

Sorry that's a no, complicated story. It would only waste resources anyway.

I am embarrassed to ask, but I will ask: what is this plugin for and how is it used?

If you apply effects to your sound, in most cases it changes the volume. Louder sounds better and often tricks us into thinking the changes we have made are positive. This plugin is the same feature as the auto gain compensation in all melda plugins, although now, with this new plugin, you can use it with 3rd party VSTs.

So basically it just keeps the output loudness the same as whatever you feed into it's sidechain.

Thank you jmg8. I suspected, and hoped, this would be the function of the plugin.

However, I am not clear how to set it up in the signal chain. I would have suspected there would have to be one instance before and one after the plugin, but it seems it is not so in this case.

One more bit of help, please? Thanks!

Well it gets tricky now.
It depends on your host/daw. You need to set up a sidechain/send from before the FX chain and feed it into the sidechain input of MAGC (which sits at the end of the FX chain)

Which DAW do you use?

Cubase 8.5 on Windows 10. I wonder how I would set up a send BEFORE the FX chain. I will investigate, but if you have a hint, I´ll be very grateful.

...and, ah, here's another one for ya...I have two acoustic guitars set left and right, not exactly dbl tracking, but playing very similar parts, in rhythmic complement...sooooo...I put an instance of MACG at the end of the fx chain on each and fed the output of each into the sidechain input of the other....ahhhhhh...balance,fiddle withe the time constants and filtering....sweet..../s~

Bump.
Is there a way I can set up MAGC usefully in Cubase?

Vojtech uses Cubase hopefully he will explain......?

Certainly :
Open MAGC as VST3 (Cubase doesn't support sidechains for VST2), enable the sidechain (Cubase's title above the plugin editor), create a send in the mixer to actually send some signal to the sidechain. Done ;).

But the Send comes after the effect plugins. How do I set it up to "auto gain" after a third party VST?

There is something I am still missing here, but we are getting closer!

Post

Can you configure the send as "pre" as opposed to "post"?
