Hello,

I am about to buy a Musebox 2nd hand, and I am excited!

I know this technology is dated, and there are newer models, but I can get a working Musebox for around 100 bucks.

What makes this interesting for me is am an IT engineer, for the last 25 years. It is safe to say I know my way around a PC, Linux, and all the hardware you can imaging. I also have limited development skills, and I work for a software company so I can tap hardcore coders if needed.

I guess the first thing I need to do is open the Muse up and see what components I get. I would like to max out the RAM and go with a Samsung 1TB 850 series SATA SSD, they are less than $150 now. I would also like to max out the CPU, and it seems I need to keep the stock motherboard for the software.

I play guitar, mostly Van Halen and 80's rock. So other than the amp models and pedal effects, I will have some stuff to experiment with it seems with all the keyboard options. I actually use the Peavey 6505/aka 5150 as my main amp. I also have a Pod and a Spyder Valve MK2, so I am no stranger to modeling and digital effects.

I am very familiar with cloning hard drives, I use Acronis, Ghost, Linux DD command, and clonezilla. Cloning a Linux OS is easy for me.

I guess, before I buy, does anyone have any tips? I can part with 100 easily, so if it does not work for me I can easily sell it and re-coup my costs. If you guys think I will do well with this and it will be something I will enjoy, that would be "music to my ears". I hope my PC skills might be able to help the community if things work out. I would be glad to post things I discover to help others, like tweaking the OS or other possible improvements I might stumble upon. I see posts (many old) about guys want to clone or backup their drives, which I can help a great deal with. I backup most of my systems I run now (big fan of Drobo, unRAID, and other NAS's).

Nice to be here and meet folks!

Bought mine for 200 and considered it a bargain.
For guitar it is great. Plugged it in and in first 5 minutes knew I had made a great purchase.

What about this idea, in addition to guitar...

I am going to get a BeatBuddy drum pedal (drum machine in a medal), which supports MIDI (in/out). I want to use the Muse to play VST drum patches instead of the built-in drum sounds, which should make the BeatBuddy sound like a real drummer, in theory at least?

Thoughts?
