KVR turning into a shop now?! (details please!)

Any problems with the site? How can we improve KVR?

Okay, we all know that KVR once started as a small community, which got then taken over by MUSE RESEARCH, which in turn then kind of vanished (the hardware I mean - is it even relevant still?!)

So I just hit the KVR page, only to be greeted with this:
KVR Shop.PNG
Now KVR is turning into a <* removed> shop as well? This leads to another market place, outside of the already available "market place" (which is basically just a "small ads/classifieds" section.

What is this? The next Facebook?

And as usual - no bits of news to be read about this "new feature", what it will offer us, why we should use it and not shop at the distributors directly.

What is going on, please?!

*words removed due to controversy of the "meaning", and people making fun of it rather than staying on topic

Maybe relax and wait for an official statement on this? Why the rage anyway? I wouldn't mind if i could buy my plugins here, or whatever it is supposed to be.

Post

It was mentioned in an email a while back I think (didn't pay much attention TBH :))

Well, this is it i guess: http://www.kvraudio.com/marketplace/

New section "Marketplace" in the bar, where you can also click on "Forum". Nice stuff really.

Post

how fresh are these forum members, is that one in a LE edition?
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

OP seems like he needs to get laid.

Well, that's a permanent state then.

This is what annoys me - there is NEVER an official statement.

Up until this day, I still want to know what benefit the enhanced "MyKVR" is over the old forum account - never got any official infos on that. It's always "figure it out yourself".

I'm happy to even get mails for the PM system!
In other words - I did NOT get a mail about this.

Two things:

a) it's confusing to the already existing(!) market place
b) the link kicks off if you press on the cart

It's basically a new shop - and I'd like to have some infos on that.

Like - Will we get cheaper off than with the developers themselves? If I am a developer, what are my benefits? Is this also made for second hand stuff, etc.

The terms of conditions speak of "The KVR Marketplace allows users of the Site to list their products for sale ("Sellers") and for other users of the Site to purchase products ("Buyers") from Sellers through a centralized and secure website". Yeah, okay... so what is it? A regular shop? Do we really need ANOTHER ONE?!

What's the catch here, really?

I think this is tied into the whole forum now. I am apparently registered to the shop as well. I'm greeted with my user name.

In fact, this gives me a matter of concern. Now that this is also a shop, and we have to(!) note down out contact data if we want to buy anything through the "offered deals"... what if an account or the database is hacked? Will we see even more updates of the forum (and therefore outages?).

Data security is a topic in this day and age.

Ben - a bit more info would be nice!

(soz compy) yes it is kind of confusing reread as such.

I miss the old KVR...

@ Compyfox: I don't take everything without questioning. I'm just not a bitter, negative prophet of doom like you. You act like KVR owes you an explanation, or an excuse. In fact, you are registered here for years, and can use a platform to discuss, and express your (weird) opinion, for free. Time to cheer up, and be a little grateful, instead of acting like a spoiled brat.

Post

Oh, do you want to take this into the PM form again, chk071? Oh wait... last time we did that you basically told me I waste my time, I'm just a stupid idiot and people hate me for that. Nice work, great insult. Who is "derailing" now, "vendetta boy"? (yes, at this stage, it is personal!)

It's a valid question - I'm sure only a fraction of the KVR users were even informed of that change. Some might even wake up later today and be like "what is this?!" - similar to my moment. There is no mention in the news either. And this didn't happen the first time. Every change on KVR goes without further explanation and you're always like "WTF is going on?!".

However, if you ask "WTF is going on", it's suddenly bitter commentary, negative, condescending, annoying... sorry - adding more adjectives with similar meaning would only unnecessarily prolong this thread.

So if you can't answer the question, stop jumping on my back and let those people answer that can.

It's a risky business decision to compete with your commercial customers (especially after they helped build your business), and it's also risky to convert social media accounts into commercial accounts without user permission or even an opt-in. If no such stakeholders were consulted at all in the lead-up to this, I don't see how it's an example of good business ethics or creating kvr as a 'safe space.'

Looks like a natural development and I don't mind it. The admin Ben has created a great forum that happens to be probably the largest in the Internet in the niche of music software and it's nothing but good if he makes some money out of it while he maintains it (and perhaps is able to employ someone else while doing that).

But the Terms & Conditions of the new Marketplace, they are a bit surprising. I didn't sign up to to those, but now it appears I'm bound by them ("Thank you for registering with the KVRaudio.com website ("Site") and our marketplace services ("Services")." at https://www.kvraudio.com/marketplace/te ... conditions). I'm fairly sure but not certain that the terms that I agreed to weren't much different from the ones that are still shown when one registers to the site (at http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/ucp.php?mode=register). The old terms do state they may change any time and expect me to be prudent to review any changes, but this is still quite the change.

In particular what sticks out like a sore thumb in the new Marketplace's terms & conditions is the part about user-generated content:
KVR wrote: User-Generated Content: You own and are solely responsible for any content including images, text, audio or other materials that you submit ("User Content"). By submitting User Content, you grant KVR a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable right and license to use, reproduce, distribute, create derivative works from, display, store, or publish in any way, in any media known now or in the future, in order to promote or provide the Services. For example, this allows KVR to edit User Content for sizing, orientation, and grammar, as well as allowing KVR to advertise your products using the User Content. You represent and warrant that the User Content: (a) is owned by you or you control all necessary rights to it; (b) does not violate, misappropriate or infringe on the rights of any third party including intellectual property rights, privacy rights or publicity rights; (c) is accurate, not obscene, false, libelous or defamatory; and (d) will not cause injury to any person, entity or system.

Does that mean that anything people write here from now on can end up in a advertisement, for example, in ads syndicated by Google? The sellers are also allowed to use the user content in case KVR decides to give it away (or perhaps sell it)?

And technically, no more posting random music hosted on Youtube?

These are definitely valid questions raised (does not only affect me as user, but also as host of a Mix Challenge here on KVR).

So please keep them coming.
