here's an example

I dont want to accuse anyone but this seems to happen a lot where people with one post come in and start threads, get things started and bolt. Another that Dan pointed out giving the poster the benefit of the doubt is below

and here is one that some were thinking might be someone starting something up and low and behold the op never returned, all three on the same page.

It would be nice to clean up the specific forums for their intended use and perhaps these others could be moved to "getting started"? I mean this gets old, people here are so willing to help and spend their time really trying to do so but at the end of the day I think far too often they are just being used...sad but what can we do? This really hurts us all and KvR :?

I don't think the second and third examples belong in Getting Started at all. The first one probably does, based on "(AKA What is the best...?)" so maybe I'll move that one there.
No longer a moderator.

you're right Dan and forgive me but after almost 13 years these one post wonders got me scratching my head. I hate to say it but I find myself more often lately checking the post count and sign up date in such threads before replying

People are being "used" how? Isn't one of the purposes of the forum for people to ask questions, and for others to answer questions if they feel inclined? Maybe people are posting OT in the wrong forum, in which case a mild case of moderatorship and a gentle correction of the offender would be in order, methinks. First-time or otherwise low post-count members doesn't mean their questions should be discounted or ignored, in my book... When you're a clueless newb you probably have a lot of questions, so logically you'd want to find a forum you thought could help and then ask them.

If you don't like that these posters didn't come back to thank those who helped, then yes, that's a little rude... But that shouldn't stop newbies from being allowed to ask questions here, yah?

as long as it's newbies it's not an issue, when one hits all the flame war points the question arises is it a newbie or a troll having a go...that's my point and I think it happens more often than you think. The third link I posted is an example of this, the poster joined in 2013, has one post and in the thread that very point is being questioned.

Naturally I have no issues helping newbies, I'm sorry if I didn't make that point clear and getting thanks is not an issue at all, I was numb to that before I came to KvR :)
