How to use energyXT as a mixer within Tracktion:

http://www.tracktionfaction.com/images/extmixer.jpg

It takes a bit to set it up for the first time, but once you have built the mixer you can save it within EnergyXT. This way it’s just a question of dropping Sederalla “sends” onto the tracks of new projects.

I find way more functionality using this.

The energyXT mixer allowss you to:
  • Control volume and pan
  • Easily solo and mute tracks.
  • Add and control send effects.
  • Create sub mixes just by inserting new mixers within eXT between the Senderalla’s and the main mixer.

I tried something similar to this using just Racks but the CPU usage became too intensive to work with.

I really should think about getting ext sometime...

This is quite cool! :-)

I wonder, could this type of functionality be rolled into an extended version of Senderella (or at least a plug that includes Senderella-like functionality)? I ask first because I don't have eXT, and second because it may make it a bit more streamlined to set up and probably better integrated with Tracktion.

If I had the time and skill, this is how I would approach it: You have two plugs, "Mixerella" and "MixMaster". You add a "Mixerella" to each track you want to mix, and enter a channel number (it could maybe also find these out itself and default to sequential number). Add a "MixMaster" to the master VST section. Internally, the "Mixerellas" register with the "MixMaster", so that this keeps track of which channels it controls. Then, opening the main "MixMaster" UI would open the mixer, with the correct number of sliders (each with send/mute, clip indicators etc.) visible, so you could control them to your hearts content. Each slider could be associated with a name/track number, a peak indicator/level meter, mute and solo buttons and maybe even a group selector (see below).

If this could be done without latency (don't see why it should have any), the options are endless!

o Use it only for certain tracks or as your main mixer
o Use it during mixdown, but don't bother during recording
o Use it only for peak monitoring - have some nice long clip indicators - resizable if possible.
o Use it instead of all vol/pan filters (we may want some panning in there too, if it's to replace vol/pen entirely)

o If the UI was resizable and not too obtrusive, it would probably allow us to place it over the main Tracktion context-sensitive panel, thus allowing full access to all tracks, and to blow it up if we need more detailed control/bigger views (even have a "big"/"small" toggle button).

Also:

o Allow creating groups of tracks and muting/unmuting a group with a single click
o Allow selecting a group and then "solo" a track *within this group*.

I would *love* the last one in particular for quickly and easily comparing different takes (on different tracks) of the same part.

Now, ModuLR, old chap, old friend... doesn't this just sound like the kind of thing you'd want to do and release to the world for free? Doesn't it just sound like the kind of thing that'd make you want to blow off your girlfriend, skip the football, give the beer a miss and just sit there and code so that your fellow Tracktioneers would love you and speak your name with reverence forever more?

:-)

Have not had time to look into this stuff yet. Is it VST based? ReWire?

Is there a decent writeup on the stuff you guys came out with? It looks quite cool, but I must admit I wasn't really sure what you'd done by reading the initial posts... just sortof seemed to come out of nowhere. ;-)

I'll check it out as soon as I get time and post some feedback. Initially, I'd say that having grouping and "group solo" features like the ones I mentioned above would be a great, great addition to my workflow. I am also wary of anything that hardcodes numbers; why 12 channels stereo? Why not a user-definiable number of channels, stereo or mono?

Currently[1] their stuff is here.

[1] I'm sure the RackBitz crew will move it at some point, I just stuck it there for now.

Ironically, Tracktion's channel mixers have features that the eXT ones don't (yet?)

If the eXT mixer gets clip LEDs etc how sweet would that be?

What happens when you freeze tracks in Tracktion?

The mixer you put together has a lot of potential. If it had metering, mute, solo, and a larger path for the sliders I would have no use for the eXT setup.

I'll try it tonight when I get home. I doubt it will work though. :?

No. Does not work with frozen tracks.

hey rusted what sort of metering do you want
per channel aux metering peaks led barmeters
let us know and well take care
hey we need to speak about some new sample pax for TF

I don’t even know how much work goes into something like this… but if the sliders had more room to move, and if there was mute, solo, peak meters (yes I know it looks like some other app… but I really sat here way too long making this from scratch).

The strip (I got lazy):

Image

The panel under the slider has the slider level. The panel above has the output level. The stripped region to the right of the slider is the meter.

Under the mute/solo (I got lazy I said!) you could have a pan knob. The "drums" caption could be a box where you can label the sliders. Above the entire mess you could have aux send levels.

Isnt it purdy?

Image

The fact that this could be stored in a rack and saved is key. Someone besides myself must be finding themselves in situations where they have recorded an 8 song demo for a band and would like a base mix to lay across all the songs. Then again.. I could just be crazy.

PM me for hosting those pax or whatever else you need. Anyone can post news at TF so feel free to announce new stuff there as well.

.
Was this a pre build of the Tracktion faction mixer? If not...what has become of it?
It looks pretty good.

That was before I was really working with Rack Bitz and the mixer already had a gui. I'll talk to him and see if we can do something with that. :)
