My current setup is a MOTU 1248 AVB and Reaper with Melda plugins. I am considering placering a microphone (i.e. a Behringer ECM8000) in my bands practiceroom/studio (which is placed in normal resident area) and then using my setup to register whenever we play "to loud"... (Using the digital controlled stepbased preamp in the MOTU with the ECM8000 aligned together with an Ultracuve 2496, should allow me to know the precise SPL)

Does any of you know if it for instance is possible to route audio through a Melda plugin (i.e. MAnalyzer) and then having the plugin change color, or show a large screen alert, visible for all in a large room, whenever the audio preasure exeeds a given dB threshold?

Hehe now that's original :D. Anyways I suppose you can just use MAnalyzer, set resolution to like 10dB and make it big, when you see a graph then, you know you are too loud ;).

I think a Reaper script could be made to do this. This thread is related to your request. I don't know how to script though.
