FR - TurboComp Post Saturation Output Gain

Yes, there are already lots of gain settings in TurboComp, but if I change any of the output gain settings it changes the tone because they feed the saturators. Example, I thought 'Output Gain 2' (only accessible from the Edit window) was post-saturation, but it still affects the sound... I tested in MXXX.
Generally I use TurboComp as a 'character' compressor where the saturators have a big impact on the sound. So I tend to drive the output a fair bit... which creates the sound I want but inevitably results in the output being too loud, usually overloading. I can put a MUtility afterwards to turn it back down, but I'd much rather just have a final output gain that comes after the saturator so i can turn down the signal knowing that it wont affect the character.
Anyone else?

Yes a third output control on the very output would be great. I was going to request this as I am having the same problem. As long as we can get to it with multiparameters, that is all that is required.

Why don't you use the output gain of the output saturator then?

Ah, I did wonder that but you have to remember, we don't know how the signal flow works so we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. If that is effectively the last output control, then i'll happily use thatMeldaProduction wrote:Why don't you use the output gain of the output saturator then?

Indeed, a description of the signal path and where the controls are in the plug-ins would help us understand a lot. Given that Input Gain is described as the very first control in MTurboComp then it is reasonable to presume that the Output Gain is the very last control. I had put a signal path schematic together before but now see that it was wrong.
I would suggest that the Output Gain Info is modified to mention that it is "pre-saturator". And that the Output Saturator Info includes that it is after the Output Gain (and Output Gain 2).
Yes, the Output Gain of the Output Saturator could be used. For that to work, I infer that the Output Saturator Dry/Wet control comes before its Output Gain. And, of course, Output Saturator has to be enabled. But we cannot edit the Active Presets and add that multiparameter or replace the existing Gain Out knob (that knob on the Easy screen controls the General Output Gain).
PS Output Gain 2 confuses me a bit. I presume it occurs immediately after Output Gain (and therefore before the Output Saturator) but I could not see where it is used in the Active Presets.

The next version active presets will contain "output gain (final)" control, but it will be hidden, so available from the edit screen only. Personally I think it's a bit pointless, but well, who knows...

Whoa, whoa. Hold on a momentMeldaProduction wrote:The next version active presets will contain "output gain (final)" control, but it will be hidden, so available from the edit screen only. Personally I think it's a bit pointless, but well, who knows...
Output Gain, Output Gain 2 and Output Gain (final)? Surely not? And, if it is on the Edit screen only, does that mean that the Easy screen "Gain Out" is still the General Output Gain?
Let's go back to basics - why not put the General Output Gain after the Output Saturator?

And have whatever the final final final output gain is going to be called be available on the easy screen?

I actually like the easy screen output gain control as it has a big effect on the saturation, I wouldn't want to lose it from the easy screen or change its function... I simply want to be able to adjust the volume coming out of the plugin without adjusting the tone, in addition to the existing functionality.
Thanks!
Thanks!

My pleasure.
alexis1: It won't be on the easy screen. Generally the output gain should do the trick, after all that's sort of how the analog devices behave. The final output gain, being just a gain stage after the whole process will be available from the edit screen, one of the last multiparameters.

That's what I was responding to... I like the way the current output gain functions as it has a nicer effect on the saturation than just cranking the saturation amount. Your suggestion would remove the ability to do this.DarkStar wrote:DarkStar wrote:Whoa, whoa. Hold on a moment

If a change to easy screen was really necessary, i'd push for renaming the existing 'output gain' to 'drive' or something seemingly related to saturation, and then adding the 'output gain' which is just a final master control. But i'm happy with Vojtech's proposed solution, it just means cracking open the Edit window, which is no big deal and I think adding another control to the Easy screen is undesirable as each control added makes it less 'easy'

My question was an enquiry to Vojtech
One more idea - add the Output Saturator / Input Gain on the Easy screen (this does the same as the current 'Gain Out') and make the General / Output Gain control ('Gain Out' on the Easy screen) a true output gain, after all the other processing. Boosting Sat / Input Gain would keep the sound quality you're after.

Have you found out where "Output Gain 2" is used? As an Easy screen meter, perhaps?
