Cannot hear my instruments in T4

Hello,

I am a beginner in Traktion and I have a version 4 installed on my old laptop, I tried to get familiar with it but I have a big problem, I cannot hear my instrument...

In brief :

I have created a new project and loaded an audio track with an .mp3 file in it, everything fine, it loads and I can hear it perfectly when I playback.
I then connected my guitar to the PC, assigned the input in the track and in the asio config, and assigned to it the same output channel of the audio track I loaded previously.
the result is that :
- I can see the input signal reaching the software in the signal indicator
- If I try to record something it works (I tried only without filters)

BUT

- I cannot hear the guitar in the speakers neither when I am recording, nor when I am not....

Anyone can help me how to solve it ?

If I connect the guitar to Guitar rig 4 it works fine and I can hear it.....

In tracktion, you have the option of having the instrument feed back to the speakers or not, while being recorded. When you have clicked the "input" box in the track with the guitar, you have what used to be EndToEnd monitoring, and now says LiveInput Monitoring.

Are you sure you are recording the guitar? If you are, then you should be able to see a waveform in the track once recording is completed. When playing back, do you hear the previously imported track but no guitar? (You DID record the guitar on a separate track, I presume).

You're sure no tracks are muted or solo'ed that might be blocking the path?
Guitar is audio, so no .vst's in the output section - just volume and pan? (Make sure it's working the simple way, before adding effects, virtual distortion, echo, reverb...).

If you toggle from ASIO to non-asio output devices, sometimes tracktion gets confused. Pick one and stick with it. Make sure your track output IS set to the correct/live output (presumably the same as the .mp3 you imported) and is assigned the same output source.

Also, in the ASIO control panel, make sure ASIO is enabled for input and output on the device you expect (no X on the output). I have one computer with 2 audio cards, and one of them I cannot get ASIO to output on - ASIO says it's busy or reserved...

** Update **. I upgraded from ASIO4all 2.9 to 2.13, and that problem has gone away.

Thank you for the quick and complete reply, I will give my answers and a small update :

- I have the end to end monitoring option enabled in the track associated with my guitar
- I can see the wave form in the recorded sample after recording (of course in a separate track), and I am
able to playback it afterwards, when I do it I can hear both the recorded part and the audio track I imported previously, I did it with the clean tone with no filter, and after hearing that the playback worked after recording, I tried to add guitar rig 4 to the track, and it works perfectly during playback.
- No tracks are muted and I use only ASIO devices for input and output, no Xs on the output are present

I was using Asio4all drivers 2.10 , to be on the safe side I have upgraded to 2.13 version as you suggested.

I made another try and now I have one only problem, the situation is the same described above, but I cannot hear my guitar WHEN I AM NOT RECORDING..... when I press the REC button, the sound appears and I can hear what I am recording in real time, when I stop the recording I am back not being able to hear anything from my guitar.

When I playback what I recorded (with and without filters) it works fine.

Any other suggestions ? how can I make the guitar sound be audible in traktion even when I am not recording ??
I have some experience with Cubase 5 and there there was a button to press to enable the live monitoring.....is there something similar in Traktion ?

Oh, yeah. That parameter that PROBABLY should have it's default set the other way...

Options, left hand side. "Run audio engine when stopped...".

PS - T5 is also free now; and is nicer to use. You can have both installed at the same time (although don't edit in T5 then go back to use that mix in T4).
