T7 crashes on edit with multiples edit clips

Hello.

An edit with 25 edit clips for mastering.

When I open it, T7 renders nearly all edit clips but I haven't edited the mixes.

The renders start all together, hard for the CPU, PC freezes and T7 crashes.

So, I can't use this really excellent feature.

Thanks for your help.

So it crashes before you can even do anything with it?
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

Nearly yes.

The only thing I could do was opening the project many times and each time, I just could disable the automatic render of the edit clips, one by one and save the project just before it crashed.

When there was only 5 edit clips to render, it didn't crash.

Really difficult and waste of time so….

Thanks

as great as this editclips-feature is, it is not really finished i think.
i made a lot of tries to make use of it and always get the behaviour described above (not with crashes though).
it wants to render things again all the time, even when the underlying edits have not been touched at all.

sometimes it "holds" for a few days, or a week or so, then, when opening the project with the editclips inside, it renders again everything.
when big projects are involved, that max out the performance, this is a looong wait everytime.
after some time i got so bored with that, i just ignore this feature now.
doing normal renders is much more reliable.
sad, but true. it sounded like such a good idea to me (and still is), but the implementation is whacky.

would be nice if this could be made a real and reliable feature.
i was even on it with dave, when the bugtracker was active (don't know if it was t5 or t6), but it wasn't working out ... don't know why.

i could only see it working for me with little sketches put into editclips, that will render fast.

cheers, mathias

Hey Mathias, really nice from you this feedback.

One of a feature that a real professional software must have today.

To go fast !

If Tracktion team reads us ? Thanks.

Read my post about the waveforms that renders again and again, exactly the same way.

In T7 there is the option "Enable Render" in the 'Edit Properties' tab of an Edit clip's 'Properties Panel'.
(Below "Render at 1x Play-Speed")
What happens if you enable that option ONLY after you have changed something in the Source Edit(s)?

It renders too even if I've not changed anything in the mix.

Maybe it has sth. to do with the TEMP file folder?
If it is always cleared by your system, Tracktion generates always new .thumb files etc.
Don't know. Worth a try?

i checked all these things while testing this feature when it was introduced.
tracktion stores the files from the editclips renders in its own folder. i made certain, that they were not changed or deleted.

sometimes it "holds" for a few days or weeks (no extra-renders without need).
but then it wants to just render the editclips again, without anything changed and newly saved in the underlying edits.
something in the routine, that checks if editclips need to be rendered again (checking for updated/newly saved edits for example) seems not correct. at least that is what i suspect ...

however, tracktion dev sees it probably as correct and working fine, otherwise they would have a look???
don't know really, i've given up on this feature (not on tracktion :) ).
i will check it again with new versions maybe, to see if things got sorted.
