"Band" limiting in MAutoDynamicsEQ?

This is possibly a feature request but I want to hear what you think of it first. I'm sometimes missing the ability to limit a “bands” volume when using MAutoDynamicEQ so that the volume in a bands frequency range never exceeds a given threshold/ceiling. I'm not talking about MMultibandLimiter.
Would it be possible to include a limiting feature that completely limits the frequency range's volume of that band? I would find it very useful!
Is limiting a completely different method or could it be accomplished by having the dynamics gain going much lower?

I don't think it is actually possible with a dynamic EQ. It might be possible to turn the dynamic EQ into a multiband limiter (note that you'd need a brickwall limiter after it anyway!), but it sure hasn't been designed to do this. I see several problems, one is that when it measures the input level for the filter, the actually signal has already passed! (the EQ needs to be minimum phase). I basically think this is a dead end, that's what multiband limiters are for, and you can use the flattening preset to do something like that, but it won't limit the bands (however you think about what band actual is here).

Alright, I kind of thought so but thanks for the info. I'll be looking into the multiband limiter then.
I guess MSpectraldynamics could do this too? It has a Spectral limiter preset.
One other thing. When using a band-shelf the dynamic gain reduction is a bit weak. It only reduces about half of the peak's dynamic gain reduction. Is there a purpose for this? I would prefer if the band-shelf would reduce as much as the other filter types.

MSpectralDynamics will probably work in a similar fashin to multiband limiter, but you'd need a brickwall limiter after it of course.
As for band-shelf - it is most likely listening to far smaller part of the spectrum. Just use the gain or switch to squared/log mode.

Ha I never even saw that Level Gain in the Dynamics section of the band settings!
Very handy indeed!
And the linear/squared/logarithmic modes...
I guess I should read the manuals sometimes!
Your plugins never cease to surprise me

Hehe I don't read manuals either
. But when you want something a little deeper, they may get handy indeed
.
