T7 - Recording doesn't include sustain pedal at all

T7 doesn't record any sustain pedal events. Not even a constant "On" during recording. Using a M-Audio Oxygen49. This is a real issue for me, the tracks NEED that sustain pedal, they sound absolutely ridiculous with out it. It works on playback if I hold the pedal down, but doesn't include the event in the actual recordings.

Anyone else have this issue or know the solution ? I have the same issue when recording in Pro Tools as well, but I rarely use PT anyway. the bulk of my recording and mixing is done in T7

Any insight or help greatly appreciated

Must be something on your system filtering out certain midi messages, especially if it's happening in PT too. Tracktion certainly does record sustain for me.

well...I changed the pedal assignment to work as on/off and it records fine, until I press the pedal during playback and it still triggers it off. So it seems it doesn't record the sustain pedal event at all. I just happen to have it ON when I hit playback.

It should do, I don't think the problem is with Tracktion itself.

on the input tab in the properties select record note automations

This is how to edit any of your controls on your midi clip that was captured in the midi recording or you can draw in values if you like.

I'm not sure that is right, I think it's referring to per note automation, not recording of midi cc's specifically. Let's just say I have it unchecked (and have never used it) and T7 has always recorded and played back sustain pedal fine for me. I still think if the problem is also affecting PT then clearly it's not a Tracktion problem but something that is filtering out some midi messages on his system.

the M-Audio may have some advanced features to allow/disallow different types of midi messages (i.e. controllers and sysex messages). If you play the VST using the live input monitoring, does sustain appear to be coming INTO Tracktion normally and functioning ?

On the flip side, if you have the M-Audio OFF during playback does the recorded sustain pedal appear to function? Is it possible the sustain pedal state is being sent during playback and overriding the state that was recorded?

Within Tracktion, do you see that the sustain pedal is actually being recorded in the controllers section? Does, for example, pitch bend and modulation work properly?

Finally, get a freebie tool called MIDI-OX. It will likely only work when Tracktion is shut down, but it has a "midi monitor" mode where all events from the midi interface are displayed. Run that monitor, play a few notes so you can be sure you are seeing the midi as expected (note on and off), then tap the sustain pedal and see what's coming through - to verify the events truly are coming in as expected.

Was just about to post this very thing.

ok......I found an app called MidiPipe.stalled it, set it up to see keyboard, midi in and out and recorded a track. It reported all the keys and the sustain pedal action..but the recording DID NOT record the sustain pedal at all. I have the button engaged shown in the previous reply. Turning off the keyboard/control has no effect on the track. but holding the pedal down on playback does. Oddly enough Pitchbend and Mod DO record.

Yeah as I thought that was a red herring. So it sounds like your midi keyboard is outputting the right messages but something is filtering them out before they get to the 2 DAWs. I'm not aware of any midi filtering that T7 does (unlike say Sonar that does have an option to filter out certain messages like aftertouch) so it should not be doing this. Might be worth checking if PT does though, I'm not familiar with that one.
