It would be nice to disable preset installation and maybe 32/64 bit versions, currently always installing to the recycle bin for me ;).
It gets a little annoying to delete the million of presets, again and again with each update and betas, that would otherwise interfere with your own during search.

That reminds me, when you select Free Effects bundle, it selects mxxx as well.

Yep, I bet everyone would prefer to only install the stuff they actually select.

Also, whenever I run the installer from my download location, it creates copies of the installed folders in that location.

I had that happen when i installed into an unspecified directory.

Sorry folks, discussed before, safety reasons, won't happen. The stuff is tiny anyways. Most of the size is in the plugin kernel, which needs to be installed anyway. It's strange how some people are obsessed by a few at-most-hundreds files in 2016, especially since there are hundreds of thousands just in the OS.

nononono I don't care for the bytes of xml data, I don't want to constantly replace the programdata and appdata folders that's all, I guess I'll script it, but i'm sure others would benefit.

Post

Hmmm, now I'm lost! :o What are you replacing there? I mean the installer doesn't do anything wrong, so what is the problem exactly?

Yeah, oops, not program data. I mean all the the M*presets.xml files in the appdata folder.

Yes it does two things wrong:

1) installs stuff that was not selected
2) installs duplicate copies of the plugin folders in the location it was launched in

There are no reasons, "safety" or whatever for it to do these things, these things are not needed or wanted by your customers on their computers, whatever you personally may think about the files is irrelevant.

I bet he's thinking the same thing ;)

Sadly it's not that simple. First there are now quite complex dependencies for presets and different products may require different set of presets and sometimes you don't even know which. Second, people sometimes install stuff in quite a weird order, mess with the stuff, move it between computers etc. And third, it apparently needs to be installed in both locations for security reasons - on some machines (especially shared ones) both folders are needed, one for user stuff, the other as a seed for new users... Simply put, if we didn't do it this way, there would be quite a big chance that some people wouldn't have presets. I have spent so many hours on support, that I'm not going to change this anymore, sorry. It's just a few XMLs, try counting the number of files on your system, you'll see that it's irrelevant.

nonono it has nothing to do with the size, oh nvm, already scripted it :)

Hmmm but then you wrote "Yeah, oops, not program data. I mean all the the M*presets.xml files in the appdata folder.", so I'm just lost :D

Melda isn't the only one that forces install of both 32 and 64 bit (Native Instruments is another...) - I have an 'unusedx32' folder for anything I don't want, and that folder is not in my DAW's VST path. This is the primary reason for wanting the option at install time.

I like your 'install to recycle bin' thinking :) Although that won't work for NI, when it sees the 32 bit vst is missing, it deletes the 64 bit version during an update; stupid stupid stupid...

Anyway - it would be good to have the option to install either 32 or 64, or both, but the official answer some time ago was 'some users don't know the difference, so we install both by default'. These people should have their computers confiscated :D

I've said 'maybe 32/64' because I know that can be an issue for some. ;)
But my problem is that with each install, I also install the default presets.
The default presets have names similar to my own presets.
When I search for a preset I want, I also get the default presets.
I don't want this.
So I replace the Presset files after each install.

EDIT: still not getting my point across, but whatever, I fixed it for myself :)

Hmmm, why don't you put your presets into a folder or name them differently ... ? There are many ways to handle that. Certainly better than replacing the files all the time.

:D :D hehe that would be interesting since there wouldn't be any Apple users left :D :D. And the community for PCs would be, well, very tiny :D. People confuse a lot of things here - would you for example believe that people were asking if 64-bit plugins produce better audio quality? And that was very common! :o
