Step Clip -> Audio render?

I'm using Step Clips to sequence drums, using the sampler rack. Each audio output from that rack goes to its own track. These are then routed to my audio interface and I have each one on its own audio channel (EQing each sound individually and with its own aux send level to a hardware reverb).
My question is: can I render to an audio file (ie dry) directly from that step clip/sampler combo? Or do I have to record the audio back in to Tracktion via my audio interface? Would I need to add new audio tracks for this?

All you would have to do is render the output track if you want the dry. If you want the whole chain in the recording you would have to record back into the DAW from your interface or mixer.nathanscribe wrote:I'm using Step Clips to sequence drums, using the sampler rack. The problem is, how do I directly render the different outputs from a sampler rack? I have half a dozen drum sounds programmed in the step clip track, and the audio for the kick is fed into the same track. The audio for the other sounds - snare, hats, etc - go to different, otherwise epmty, tracks. I can render the kick, by selecting the kick track and hitting render, but selecting any other track results in nothing because the samples in the step clip are redirected from the primary step clip track, if you see what I mean.

one way would be to set up as many new tracks as you want to render and put inputdevices at the beginning, that reference to the tracks you need to have recorded.
tracktion can give you inputdevices the resemble trackoutputs, in addition to your soundcardinputs.
when you have everything set up, enable these tracks for recording and let the project run through once in play/record.
rightclick on the inputsymbol of the trackheader of a newly created track and you should find your way through.
i don't know right now if track freeze would be an option too.
editclips would be an option also.

Hmm, so this means recording an audio take, rather than just hitting 'render' and having Tracktion automatically make audio takes for me?

in this example, yes. it will record the audiooutputs of a track to another.
with editclips, it would render.

you can edit "editclips", so they resemble only one track of an underlying edit.
they will automatically render that.
this would mean to set up a new edit and put as much editclips of your original project in there, as you want to have tracks rendered.
then set those up to resemble only one track in the properties pane/edit clip

Probably quicker to do an audio take!

yes
sometimes straightforward recording is simple and fast.
the only benefit of editclips is, that you can change the underlying edit and it will be updated then.
but it all gets complicated very fast and one needs to keep things in mind ...
after years of thinking about complex, integrated workflows, i tend to go back to simple, fast and reliable steps
