Hi, I'm new. Just getting back into things after a few years. Bought a MuLab userkey, I really like this DAW.

I had a question;

Back a few years ago I used a questionable installation of Reason 5. One thing that I used often was this Arpeggiator that had a Random function with parameters for note length, spacing, etc. So I could fill in a scale with an instrument and attach this arpeggiator and let it do it's thing until I heard something that caught my attention. I can't remember if this came with Reason or not.

Is there anyway to do something like this in MuLab, or if I need a VST/plug can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm not asking anyone to spoon feed me, I'm just inexperienced. I tried looking for a freq spectrum VST the other day and it took me all night to find one that would actually work for what I wanted.

You need to take a look at the Step Sequencer and attaching some Parameter Value Randomizers to it, that will get you somewhere near where you want.
Unsure ? just ask

RandARP might be what your looking for in a vst, some other cool tools there as well, like cales(for scales) & chordz(for chords  )

Here's a quick knock up, place this in the first slot of a rack and put your synth in the second

Bibz1st, this is . . . Amazing. Seems to be what I was looking for. How did you do this? Did you have to code the randomizers or did you create this with the built in Modular editing?

Post

Open the modular section of that mux and have a look around, change a few things see what happens to get a feel for what things do, if you mess it up you can always load the mux back in, its not as complicated as it first appears, glad you like it :)

OK, so I have a good understanding of how things work now. I'm trying to build more functionality into this mux. I have a couple issues.

How to reference a current Rack from inside a Mod? If you place a Mod in a rack and then drag-drop another rack in the slot under it, it creates a "Send-To (Rack Name)" reference. This works fine, but I wanted to have a button on the mod to select a rack instead.

Second issue; When editing the face of a Mod, it only lets me add groups and text. I have been able to drag-drop stuff from other Mods into mine, But it won't let me drop a button like the one you make to show the Step Sequencer.

Not sure if thats entirely possible the way you want but I've got near with this work in progress. It currently cycles through each rack (should do anyway)
The trick with this one is put this Mux in Mulabs Modular area and connect as the pic

Also make sure the Random Steps Mux is selected so it has the "Focus"

This one does it right, albeit still from the Modular area, it just needed the settings changing in the Note Dispatcher.

Hmm, I see the direction you are going with this....

I wonder if we can hook a randomizer into the instrument combination.

Post

Absolutely do-able...probably..struggling a bit though to achieve it. Can get it to play different synth with each new note but not to stay on one synth after randomly selecting it...
edit
I think this slight problem goes back to a FR about a switch module, so may not be do-able just yet.

Just played with bibz1st's last version (as of now) -- great fun! Wired to a "Perc Organ", "Feel It Bass" and "Starter Kit"...

Yea, its great fun indeed, glad you're enjoying it.
