jo,
looking at runaudio's clip launcher made me wonder if mulab could be easily updated to include both linear and pattern based workflow for recording audio and midi. it provides the user with the option of recording on a pattern based screen or in the traditional linear fashion. the combination of the two allows songs to be created on the fly by triggering patterns and then editing the arrangement created later if required.
at the moment there are sub page buttons on mulab for 'compose', 'edit', 'modular' etc on main page. another button for pattern based recording (called 'clip' mibbe and being similar to the 'clip launcher'?)integrating pattern based recording option would greatly expand mulab's options. the ability to record clips to create an arrangement would be a fantastically creative tool in mulab.
of course, it's similar to the workflow in ableton, and now also used in bitwig, but it is the most flexible of layouts designed (as far as i am aware - to date) and i don't see why other daw's shouldn't use this approach in their own designs, if it expands the options available to users.
very interested in what jo and mulab users think re this suggestion.
clip launcher - possible linear + pattern based mulab
