What is the difference between probability, variance and random for patterns? "variance" and "random" sounds for me a bit similar.

Probability is the chance a step will trigger the pad.
Random is destructive, variance is non-destructive. That is, changing random will write random values to steps for whatever modulation is currently selected. Variance does not, but during playback, it will apply random values in realtime.
In practice, random will apply the same values when the pattern is repeated, variance will apply new values.
