Live 4 has audio routing abilities, but it appears not to work with Zebra.

Have you gotten a chance to try it?

I'm sure Ableton could hook you up if you don't own Live!

Yeah, being hooked up is no problem at all :)

However, it doesn't make sense to me to test Zebra in Live4 as I know that they already tested Live4 with Zebra in-depth.

What I think is, they do not have inputs on AU instruments at the moment. I think to remember they had some issues to get this going for Zebra, and then they rather left it away than adding anything that doesn't work perfectly. (I think they also had problems with other AUs which were coded to run in Logic but are not exactly 100% AU specs compliant)

As the developer of Ableton who's doing the plugin interface stuff is a good friend of mine, I think we'll fix any problems with Zebra quickly.

Please keep in mind that Live4 is the first time they support AU at all, and I havn't seen that dude for quite a while, because he even worked through whole weekends recently. Adding support for a new plugin format to an existing one isn't a trivial task. I would expect the AU support in Live4 to be relatively basic now, feature wise, but - as I know them - also very proper and stable.

Now that they have it, I'm sure that they'll add more features in subsequent updates, including multichannel output and side chaining for instruments.

Cheers,

;) Urs

Actually it had multi-out support is 4.0b1. Something DP can't say for a release version. So far it's been really nice AU implementation.

I think the issue of side-chaining into Zebra is that it's considered a "MIDI" track still so it looks for MIDI stuff as an input.

So far Live 4 Beta is awesome.

Well the VST shell doesn't seem to work for audio input either, so hopefully your buddy will pull through!

Ok,

I'm on Live4 beta now.

So, its AU support is much more advanced than I have expected ;-)

I have analyzed sending an AudioFile into Zebra's side chain input, and there's definately something wrong. The input level grows and grows until it's way more than +48 dB (!). Also, it has a DC offset and sounds like been driven through a resonant lowpass filter.

As I write this, I have Frank on iChat and we're working on the problem.

I hope it's an easy fix.

Funnily, they have only one other AU they can test this stuff with, and it seems to work properly there...

And I must say... Live4 is mindblowing...

Oh, reg. ZebraShell... maybe I have overseen something. I havn't managed to get any input into it. I'll be consulting Steinberg about what is needed to do there...

Hehe, in an Audio Track, you can specify the Output destination... and that can be a Midi Track if there's an AU sitting on it... simple and elegant!

Ah, now I see it. UND WIE!

Ok... we had some weird headaches... but I seem to be innocent... looks like Frank found the mysterious Problem... it's not in his code... someone at Ableton will have a busy day tomorrow...

:D Been using Zebra in L4 since the release. Sounds BEEFY. Both AU and VST shell. They are (as you know) working on the sidechain issue which they have posted will be in the next beta (wedneday). Yes busy busy...

Other topic... Urs you know anyone who knows data on additive and physical modeling. I'd like to find some displays of additive shapes for real instruments to help me build some stuff. Want to create a library of spectrums, but like fm its farly unintuative. :?

Hehehe, what do you mean by data on additive and physical modeling?

PM is a technology that involves system states rather than data.

Spectrum shapes (time/frequency plots?) can easily be obtained by analysing samples, i.e. with Arizona's AudioXplorer.

I have the regular version of Live 4.0 (not the beta) and I can get Zebra to sound, but there is not access to the patches. I just get a default patch sound. I am new to LIve so its possible I am missing something. It seems that other patches, like Absynth have a button to load patches which works, but the button on Zebra doesn't load anything. Could I be using the VST (instead of the AU version which I normally use in Logic?)

Post

Hiya,

this sounds weird...

Are you saying that you can access the presets in Logic, but you can't access them in Live?

How do you access them? Do you use the preset selection in the DAW software (Logic, Live) or do you use Zebra's built-in preset manager (the one below the 4 XY-controls)?

Sidenote: for Zebra's built-in preset manager it is completely indifferent if you use the VST or the AU. The VST is the AU, just there's an AU-VST adapter inbetween.

Please let me know so we can get this solved.

Cheers,

;) Urs
