I try to use MUX in Reaper v5.4 on a Mac OSX 10.10.5, but Reaper crashes all the time, when I insert MUX as an instrument. I had this troubles before, then it worked for a while. Now the issues are back again. I suppose that the issues have to do with the fact that MUX has its data-folder inside the VST-folder and needs write-access to this folder. This could be denied and so its crashing. It doesn´t help to give the folder write-permissions.
The vst-folder inside the system-folder has a special security -degree. Thats why I have to enter my password, when I change anything in this folder. So, is there a way that the MUX -data can be located in an other place?

MUX Modular VST plays fine in Reaper on Sierra.
Maybe something system related? As you say that you have the impression that it is related to permissions, did you try moving the MUX folder to a location where it surely doesn't suffer from restricted permissions and then add that MUX location to Reapers plugin location list?

Post

I have used an other location for MUX outside the system-folder and added this location to the Reaper preferences, but its still crashing. It is quite odd, that I can load MUX into Reaper only one time after a fresh installation without crashing. The next time and further on Reaper crashes. So, is there something whats going on during the first use of MUX? I suppose that MUX is writing something ( e.g. a log-file ) in a special place and this causes the crashes the next time.

Post

No, MUX VST does not write to special places. Like MuLab, MUX VST is completely working within its own folder structure. IF MUX would write a log file, it will be in the folder where the MUX.vst file is.
Please post / email me the MacOS crash report that states the crash module, crash location, the call stack etc.

MUX is working with Reaper exactly one time after installation, every next time I try to use it, Reaper crashes. Something must be done by MUX during the first use, because in the first run a window with hints appears, but not in the following runs. Is MUX writing a kind of logfile or ini-file somewhere, which will be used for the following usage?

MUX Modular in Reaper is ultra-stable on latest versions of macOS (10.12).

Your version of OSX is from before Apple introduced all the "System Integrity Protection" stuff. My guess is that you need to upgrade you OS or use a MUX version compiled with the Apple libraries from before SIP was introduced.

Post

Thanks for your advice, but I can't upgrade to OSX 10.12. My computer is not compatible with this system. To use a MUX version, which is compiled with the older Apple libraries, is not in my hand. Its up to the developer to make such version available.
But how can this SIP - stuff make such trouble? How does it work?

Hi, I have now found a way to use MUX in Reaper without crashing. Reaper has a vst-mode to use vst's in a bridged mode for 32bit-plugins. When I insert MUX in this way, it works. No crashes anymore. So is MUX a kind of 32bit-plugin?

Which window do you mean? Pls post screenshot.

Not at all, MUX Modular for MacOS is a true 64 bit plugin.

Here are two screenshots. One is the startscreen of MUX , which opens only once after installing. The other screenshot shows the bridged-mode in Reaper, in which MUX is now working without crashing. In this mode you can use 32bit-vsts, but perhaps it can also be used with special 64bit-vsts, which do not run in the regular mode.
Now MUX is working in Reaper, but its not the best way, because the bridged mode uses some CPU extra.
