I have an optimus md-1200 keyboard and I want to use it for midi. I have the midi out going into the midi in on my audiophile 24/96 card. I'm not getting a midi signal into tracktion however. Can someone please enlighten me on this subject. I can get the audio to work just not the midi.

First, make sure that you've enabled "Delta AP MIDI" in your Settings page under the list of Midi devices.
Next, make sure that your optimus has its MIDI output enabled. Don't know that particular model, so I dunno if it's always outputting MIDI by default, or if you have to choose MIDI output from some sort of button or menu.
In Tracktion, make sure you've dragged the "Delta AP Midi" device to the track you're working on.
Since MIDI has no sound of its own, you'll have to put some sort of synth into the filter section of the track. If you're still in 'stock' Tracktion-land, you can use the DX-10 to see if it's working (one of the mda filters).
If you've done all of that, there's one more thing to try out just to help narrow down what the problem is:
Click on the "Delta AP Midi" device so that it's highlighted. The virtual keyboard should appear in the bottom of the Tracktion screen. Use your mouse to play a few notes. If you're getting no sound, and you DO have a DX-10 on the track, then it's time to look at your output chain. I won't get into that, as it's likely premature.
If you DO get sound from clicking, but not from pressing keys on the optimus, then it is not sending MIDI. Following my steps, you'll DEFINITELY be covered on the Tracktion/Audiophile end of things, so it HAS to be the optimus that's not outputting MIDI signals, and you'll have to figure out which buttons/menu selections to pick in order to enable MIDI output.
Hope that helps,
Greg

i managed to get the optimus to send midi information to tracktion, however, when i play the midi clip no sound comes through the speakers, although tracktion show that there is a signal. the speakers seem to be working fine. thank you for your help!

I'm friends with pecos and know his situation.
Some extra details:
It seems like only the sounds from the keyboard are being played. There is no sound coming from the keyboard speakers, the sound is making it's way out of the sound card to the mixer and out the monitoring speakers. I'm not the most knowledgable but it seems like only the programs/banks in the keyboard are accessable. However, after recording the midi, the sounds from the keyboard won't replay, it's just blank and the midi signal is somehow by-passing the filter with the vst on it.
I don't understand how this is possible.

On the clip or device properties, check the MIDI channel as this will override the channel of the incoming data, and it may be sending on a channel that the VSTi isn't expecting. Most VSTi's respond to all channels, but some do not.

Actually no I don'tpecos bill wrote:ok i assume you mean the device properties in the control panel?
Obvious suggestion, just in case: don't forget you need to drag it to point to the track which holds the instrument you want to play.

heh...really there are no obvious suggestions with me.
the "delta AP MIDI" icon is on the track i am trying to play and the midi channel is 1.
i just noticed- when i move the vst icon (in this case the TickyClav) a message appears saying "this track has a VST synthesizer but doesn't ouput to a wave device so the synth may not be audible." could this reveal the problem?

quite possibly.
you need to select the track and look at the right of the properties panel; they'll be a box with all your available audio outputs, other tracks etc. You need to click on an audio output so the track (and VSTis on it) can be heard.
