Here's a somewhat pointed question. By spending the $59.00, what exactly are you getting that isn't already in the free version? I'm looking at it right now, and the only "Extra" I see is I can move the microphone around the room.

Anyone care to weigh in?

Don't know about extras but Amplitube sounds like a crap to me. Save your money and buy decent amp simluator for example scuffams-gear.

I'm a guitarist, with a good valve amp (swart AST). and I find Amplitube to be really good. I often play through it, though I don't go toward metal tones. If you think this sounds like crap you must have very high standards! admittedly this is the fender 2 collection which is an add-on.

You get the fancy mic thingy, and 4 new Marshall amps from the 60s to the 90s.

For me, I was way way more impressed by the player than the sound of the amp, tbh.

I've got 3 tube amps, a Fender '94 Twin Amp (the "Evil Twin"), a '79 Fender Princeton Reverb upgraded w/ vintage (Chicago) Jensen CK10's and modded back to a black face, and a Laney Lionheart LH5T. Amplitube sounds pretty darn good to me, particularly when you throw up the room mics a bit for some air. Gain staging is important too. I like to run guitars in through my Warm Audio TB12 Tonebeast, which sounds very good when driven. Gives Amplitube 4 that "loud, driven" sound that I was never quite happy with using transformerless front-ends.

I've been mic'ing up more often lately, but that's more about committing to a sound early and limiting my options than it is about getting a better sound. I have no problem using Amplitube if it works better, or is just covering a tone I can't do with my own rig (example: JCM800 - though there's a JCM800 combo on Craigslist that's been teasing me).

For bass, I've got an Ampeg BR50, which is a great sounding solidstate amp, but I'll still track with AT4 + a DI. I'm not a metal guy, and I know people who are tend to gravitate towards S-Gear, but it's just not my thing.

Lost in all of this, is it REALLY the full version of AT 4?

Also, did they ever do a demo of 4?

I wish they had a complete bass player package for people that didn't want 50 different Marshall amps.

How do you know you don't like 50 different Marshall amps if you've never even tried 50 different Marshall amps?
You need to limit that rez, bro.

It is the full Amplitube 4,it's just that this version is way less comprehensive than Amplitube 3. That's why it's cheap.
The free version is the demo. It comes with everything, and it's all locked until you pay for it. Via Custom Shop you can demo individual bits and pieces for 3 days, I think - but you need to be online to use them.

AmpliTube 4 includes the following which do not come with the CS (free) version: The 5 new amps and respective cabs, Cab Room (including speaker swapping 12" speakers,3D movable dual mics, six room scenes, cabinet mixer, and double dynamic 57), effects loop, 8-track recorder section in the standalone vs 2-track in the free version, Acoustic Sim pedal, 4-track Looper, and UltraTuner.

Note that you also get the amps, stomps, racks, and such from the free AmpliTube CS version so it isn't just the British models and there are some useful effects included for you too. You can either buy what you'd like in Custom Shop or opt for AmpliTube 4 Deluxe which comes with gear from AmpliTube 3 + the new AmpliTube 4 gear and functionality.

For bass players we do have Ampeg SVX available and you can browse bass gear in Custom Shop for more. You could use the Ampeg SVX collection and any a la carte bass gear in the free version but you are correct that if you are going to use the features I list above that are not in the free version you would get some British models included in that. The current promo may make that less of any issue though, since you get more than some amps for that low price.

C'mon Peter, Ampeg SVX is 11 years old already (a quick Google search yields a KVR News Item from May 30, 2006 announcing it's release). IK's modeling technology has come a long way in the last 11 years. Get those lazy developers* of yours to work on an update! It's long past due.

Heck, if IK or Ampeg are no longer playing nice in terms of licensing, do some unofficial Ampeg inspired amps (C15 Bartaflex anyone?). Or do some other bass gear. I find the bass amps that came with AT3 pretty darn good, but bass players have been ignored for too long! Thankfully I play guitar too, but if I were one of those lowly people that only play bass, I'd be furious with IK**.

The time for new bass gear has come! Make basses great again***!

*I'm kidding.

**Not really, but definitely less happy than I'd otherwise be.

We have added more bass gear since Ampeg SVX, you can find it in Custom Shop. However, we've definitely also heard that more Ampeg gear would be good so hopefully we're not done there either :)
