Editing generated chords

As it is now, all notes in the entire clip are reverted to the preset as soon as you make some change in the chord progression, like transposing a chord or changing the inversion.
Could it be possible för the pattern generator to only change the pitch of the affected notes and leave the length, start time and velocity of all notes intact?

I hope for that myself! I found it difficult to use a chord pattern as a starting point, and then change and edit it to fit whatever I needed, it reverts to the preset and that is frustrating.

Agreed! I hope that gets changed.
In addition, did anybody notice that even if you have the pattern generator set to "Key: Follow global track", when you change the global key in the Tempo Track, only the chord names in the generator change, but the actual notes do not?

If you click the "Update Pattern" button on the clip, after changing the global key, they will update. But they probably should do that automatically, if you change the global key, yes.zzz00m wrote:Agreed! I hope that gets changed.![]()

Hey thanks for that tip! Better than the workaround that I tried, which seems to work, but is not very efficient. If you switch the chord selection for each step to a new one, and then back again, it changes them as well.chico.co.uk wrote:If you click the "Update Pattern" button on the clip, after changing the global key, they will update. I think I would prefer automatic switch tied to global key. More elegant that way.

Add I just want to add that after changing the global key, you still need to click on each clip in the project and then click on "update pattern" for each clip. This could become tedious if you had very many clips ...zzz00m wrote:Hey thanks for that tip! Better than the workaround that I tried, which seems to work, but is not very efficient. Yeah, I was going to add that. I think it's just an oversight, imagine the clips are supposed to change when then global key changes. The code's all obviously there to do it, just it doesn't get triggered when the global key gets changed. I wouldn't bet against it getting fixed in a Waveform update ...

The issue is if somebody has manually edited the clip, they don't want to edit the global track and have all their changes overwritten.chico.co.uk wrote:Yeah, I was going to add that. This could be easily prevented by assigning "Key: Follow Global Track" to any clip you wanted to change, but not to any clips you wanted to leave alone ...FigBug wrote:The issue is if somebody has manually edited the clip, they don't want to edit the global track and have all their changes overwritten.chico.co.uk wrote:Yeah, I was going to add that. I'm not sure I get the point of the "Key: Follow Global Track" setting, if patterns don't get updated when the key in the global track gets changed.
I can see how it's a situation that's going to work the way some people want, and not how others want, whichever way you swing it, but if I've got clips set to "key: follow global track", and I change the global track, those clips are then in the wrong key for the song, if they don't update ... so i'm then into manually editing them anyway ...

There is another aspect to this whole "key: follow global track" issue.chico.co.uk wrote:I'm not sure I get the point of the "Key: Follow Global Track" setting, if patterns don't get updated when the key in the global track gets changed.

Suppose that you have one or more clips that you did not use the pattern generator with. For example, say you created some chords manually, but in the current key, using the chords menu in another clip.
If you then change the project's global key, followed by clicking "Update Pattern" in your generated clips, now any clips that you created manually are out of key.
