Only 4 plugins in Master section?

Waveform 8.1.2 on Mac. I am able to insert max. 4 instances in Master section. Moreover copy between instances does not work here. A bug?

It's been like this going back to earlier versions of Tracktion but it's a weird design decision - seems more based on the amount of space available than anything (unlike the tracks where the plugin area is more expandable). I would have thought though that with the addition of the mixer in Waveform they could easily get round this issue by adding a master channel view to the mixer itself.

I tend to think if you need more than 4 plugins on the master (unless you're attempting some weird effect), there's something wrong with your mix.

not really ...cjayconrod wrote:I tend to think if you need more than 4 plugins on the master (unless you're attempting some weird effect), there's something wrong with your mix.
it's easy to reach the limit of 4 plugins. example:
monoswitcher, dither, limiter, eq and you're done
maybe i want a master-compressor and some sort of tape-coloring (like toneboosters reelbus) additionally?
i know i can build a rack with some of the tools inside easily, but that has disadvantages, because the plugins can not be opened directly anymore, i don't see directly if they are on or off, ...
i guess it's really time to remove that limitation.

Exactly - that to me would be the most logical solution - now it has a mixer I'd have expected there to be one already actually

We can probably increase the number of master plugins allowed to 6 or 8. It is mostly a size issue as some users have small screens and that area gets cramped quickly.
We did think about adding a master strip to the mixer but realised it doesn't actually offer much benefit. You'll usually have the transport panel or minimal transport bar open which has the master volume, level meters and master plugins visible. Adding a master strip to the mixer takes up valuable space.
We will consider adding one though with a button to hide it to save space.

would adding a masterstrip to the mixer mean, that the master-section from the projectview gets a "stripview" like with tracks? i would appreciate that, together with a hidebutton, like said above.dRowAudio wrote:We can probably increase the number of master plugins allowed to 6 or 8. also extending the possible plugins on the master to 8 would be great. people with small screens always have the ability to not use too much plugs there or use a rack for instance.

What if there were a master track, viewing optional/always, perhaps Track 0? That could clear out a bit of space in the transport panel. It would allow automation tracks to be easily added at that level. Yes/No/Maybe/Daft/Already easier?
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

Yes so if you add a master strip it will be just like any other track and have as much space for plugins as needed - no need for arbitrary restrictionsdRowAudio wrote:We can probably increase the number of master plugins allowed to 6 or 8. Hi !
Since T1, my basic project template is a 8 tracks empty project with an "ultimate" track (let say a track #9) called "track master".
So, all the outputs of the tracks of my project go to this "track master", in which I am able to put as plugins as I want. And the output of this #9 "track Master" goes to the "original Master track".
There are a lot of advantages in doing this way... in small projects to very large projects...
And the "real" Master track is always plugins empty (with its output to the original MASTER).
For sure, you may consider that my created "master track" is a kind of "aux track" receiving all the other tracks outputs as input and no other "sending".
Is my way to escape to the limitation of 4 plugins in the Original Master...
My 2 cents.
Cheers !

But then we do not need master track as it is. 4 instances for 2BUS is way to little. In my projects I usually need more. Mono button as feature request in master section should save one plugin instance which I always use just for occasional checking of mono sound.Lutin mutin wrote:Hi !

After demoing and learning Harrison Mixbus, I find having a Master channel alongside all the rest to be helpful. I exported all the tracks from a couple songs and re-mixed and re-mastered them in Harrison to good effect (ignoring the occasional demo noise). It's actually a nice complementary tool to Waveform, though I find the EQ section a little hard to use.
I will NOT be switching to Harrison, but I can see the appeal of having a "real" mixer (plus it has some great built-in analog-ish sound that plugins are required for in Waveform).

I was actually thinking about this when I wrote earlier, "just add a master bus to the mixer".Lutin mutin wrote:Hi !

With Waveform's flexible track assignments, using a submix track in the mixer as a master bus, is really the same thing as having a master bus, before the master output.
Windows 10 and too many plugins
