Using Tracktion 6 (32) on Win 7

First, Waves plugins do not all work in Tracktion. I know this is a fact and I have come to deal with it.

However, I had quite a few that did work fine until a recent change.

I purchased a couple more plugins on sale from Waves recently and was required to install a new version of the Waves Central installer.

Since then, none of my Waves plugins work and it keeps pestering me in Tracktion for a path to them. There is a folder in programs that appears to have a waves folder but when I scan it does not resolve the problem at all.

I asked Waves for support but they gave me the usual answer: switch to Reaper. I don't want to do that, I want my Tracktion functionality restored.

QUESTION: Does anyone know what path to scan for the most recent plugins from Wave?

This is the path under windows:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\Plug-Ins V9"

You might also look in your plugin folder to make sure the waveshell is
actually the latest version, and the previous version has been removed.

Waves Central sucks really, they are apparently under the impression
that everyone is a moron, and will afford you no means of customizing
the installation. You can get around this with hard links and other trickery,
fortunately.

Anyway, once you got that, hopefully the problem will be solved. If the shell
doesn't list your new plugins, you might have to clear your plugin database entirely,
or otherwise fart around with it to get the shell to refresh it's contents.

Good luck! You may need it :D

btw: If you have some that aren't working, its probably just due to the
absurdity of the waveshell. Clearing the plugin cache, list or whatever
should cure it.

I have the exact same problem on my 64 bit W10 no matter what DAW I use. So this problem is not exclusive to your 32 bit W7 and Tracktion T6. And as far as the paths for the Plug-In V9 folder, WaveShell and plugin dll's goes, well, you're SOL as they don't exist. I dont know about you. But I'm fed up with Waves shenanigans and won't return anytime soon.

The path does exist actually, it may not have the (x86) part under a 32 bit OS.
Inside there should be a "WavesLib_9.91_Win32.dll" the plugins are the (plugin_name).bundle files.

If the directory isn't working, its likely that it's still using the old WaveShell.
You need to get rid of that. Find the new one, for me it was under "VstPlugins"
in the Program Files dir. Could be different for you.

Then move it to your actual plugin dir, or delete the old one, if they are both there.

BTW: You need to rescan the VST3 files as well. They are connected I think.
Usually, it handles the VST3 files correctly, unless you have them
in a non-standard dir.

I cleared the list, added the path explicitly and re-scanned and it now works again. THANKS!

I agree with your comment about Waves shenanigans. They are the only plugins that I have purchased that are flaky like this. IK-Media T-Racks has been the smoothest of any of the vendors I have used.

If we cannot get Waves to support Tracktion, I will stop supporting Waves by passing on they're new plugins.

The waves "system" is really poorly designed, and more of a burden
on their customers than anything IMHO. However, you can generally
get it to work, unfortunately, sometimes that requires some persistence.

The first time I installed Waves Central it ended with me having to format my HDD and reinstall my OS due to corrupted files. The second time around everything seemed to install as one would expect. But none of the aforementioned files and folders could be found on my system. And believe you me when I say; I turned my system upside down like a piggy bank more than once. Heck. The iLok License Manager purrs like a lovesick feline in comparison. And that says a lot about Waves Central. :)
