Hi,

long time since I was using racks. Now I want to make some easy racks with just kontakt inside with some libs or maybe kontakt and one or two other synths on different channels and using that rack on different midi tracks. Maybe one rack for a whole song with lets say 8 tracks.

I just downloaded the now free Guide to Tracktion 7 and :-o about 300 pages and NOTHING about racks :dog:

So, is there a simple tutorial or anything (I prefer written to video but if it is only video its o.k. too) for this in waveform (or useable from T 7 for waveform dont know how much changed) ?

I dont need something complicated like how to make something for drums with multiout etc., just a simple rack to use on different midi tracks.

Thanks for any advice

Hi chico,

thanks for the link, looks good (have not tried it out but will this weekend).

Theres one problem left I remember vague that is not solved with effect rack (cause it only use different effects but on the same channel) that was preparing the different tracks to use all the same rack on different channels but I hope I can figure that out, other wise I will be back with more concrete question.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this but you might want to check out the "MIDI channel splitter" rack preset which uses a bunch of "MIDI Patch Bay" plugins internally to route different MIDI channels to different instruments.

Thanks dbrowaudio for the tip:

Will try this out. The problem I remember was that it was not that easy to set correct midi channel configuration of the tracks after putting the one rack on the different channels. I think maybe especially with kontakt cause you have to set it right in kontakt an then in the rack and then in the track.

Maybe example makes it clearer:

I have one kontakt in the rack with all the instruments needed with lets say for a band (first kontakt lib for drums inside kontakt ch 1, then bass lib on ch 2, guitar lib on ch 3).

Then I save that rack as "kontakt band" and "throw" it on tracks 1, 2 and 3. And then I have to configure the right settings so that on the "1 drum track" it uses the "ch 1 kontakt drum lib", on "2 bass track" the "ch 2 kontakt bass lib" etc. That was not so easy cause I have to change channel settings inside the rack evrytime and for the tracks. But maybe I just did something wrong or it is easier now with waveform. Hope that gets things a little clearer and maybe the "midi channel splitter" is jus what I need :)
