Ah ha, found it:
Side as stereo switch makes the Side button audition the side (aka stereo) signal in a stereo way as it originally is.
I'm not sure that I even understand that; could it possibly be:
  • Side signal = Left - Right
  • If Left > Right, then output on the left side
  • If Left < Right, then output on the right side
I've not used MTurboMix (for other readers: it's an experimental alpha release) as it is just too big for my screen and the expanding/collapsing of panels and GUi resizing pushes some areas off-screen (yes, I have let Vojtech know).

Phew - I've just noticed, this is my 8,000th post. :) :dog:

It's too big for my laptop screen too.
Congratulations on 8,000 posts!

That doesn't work. I want to make side as stereo, have the left and right parts of the sides separate.

I don't follow, please elaborate.

That's not going to work, because...
DarkStar wrote:Side signal = Left - Right
That's the reason why in sum plugins its called "diff" and not "side". "mid" is called "sum" because it is simply the sum of left and right.

Masi

PS: because of the simple math it should be clear not that woking on the "side" signal will have effect on the "mid" as well. This can change your stereo field.

PPS: I'm curios if Vojtech cam up with an ingenious way to split up a 2 channel L+R into a 3 channel L+M+R.

He already has, just look at the button in MTurboMix

I guess, you first create a mid/mono signal.
Then Left - Mid = Left Side and Right - Mid = Right Side

So we end up with 3 parts, Left Side, Right Side and Mid.

Nope, I don't think that that would do it.
  • Mid = Left + Right
So Left - Mid = Left - (Left + Right) = - Right (180 degrees out of phase).

On reflection I do not think that there is a "Left side" and a "Right side".

Also, I still do not understand what this does to the Side signal:
Side as stereo switch makes the Side button audition the side (aka stereo) signal in a stereo way as it originally is.

Mid is rather an intersection of the left+right,
i.e. common to the left and right channels.
Left and right are of course terms used when talking about stereo.
If it was the sum as written above, mid was the total signal (plus doubled the intersection).
Side left = left- the intersection (left+right)
Side right = right - intersection (left+right)
