I can't say I'm a fan of the occult, though I appreciate the free patches. I am currently using one of the patches (I modified it a bit) in a song of mine that's about 3/4's done.

Beautiful concept and result. Thanks so much for an inspiring bank that illuminates the mind and welcomes the Muse. I definitely wouldn't mind more of this kind of thing. I also note how the sounds are varied to lend themselves to many interpretations. Good job with your demos as well.

Always loved his Zebra NYC soundset as well. There are quite a few gems in the Tarot Major Arcana and Hebrew Alphabet categories. Cheers Mr. Hacke.

Anyone else experience this: The patch "0 The Fool" under "Major Arcana" in the Tarot patch set plays indefinitely for me when triggered. New keys pressed only adds to the indefinite played notes.
I've noticed this with a few (not many) other patches out there too over the years, however too few for me to report but I figured I'd use this opportunity since it's such a "public" patch set.
I'm on Linux, it would be nice to get confirmed that the mentioned patch do work without infinite play on win/mac before I eventually report this as an issue with the Linux version of Hive.

Same here. Considering the enveloppes, the sound should end. The enveloppe for AMP1 has quite a long attack though. I don't if that's in seconds. Might be that the attack takes a looong time. I have tried the preset on a Mac. A note will play for roughly around 15 seconds.
This is because the AMP2 envelope is set to ‘One Shot’ mode, instead of the usual ‘Gate’ mode.
This means that it doesn’t jump to the release phase when it receives a Note-Off message, but continues to go through the stages of the envelope until it’s done.
And with the high settings for Attack and Decay, it simply takes a while for the envelope to finish.
But it’s not playing endless over here. If it really doesn't stop sounding on its own after some time on Linux, then there might be a bug in the Linux version.

I really would like to thank Alexander Hacke (and U-He, of course) for the free Tarot soundset.
It shows up the unusual side of Hive in an amazing manner. Yes, Hive is welll known for being an EDM straightforward beast, yet, Hacke demostrates how using the true fundamentals of sound design one can create many unexpected, unpredictable, beautiful sounds. Starting from the very basic rules of what a synth is, not using the fancy shortcut of the "super power of the ultimate advanced hyper-automated hidden" feature, Hacke has created many surprisingly interesting, unheard and usable sounds. This is the art of sound design, indeed. And it's for free.
Thank You!!
(BTW, this is not a review, this is what I feel... my two cents

The patch "0 The Fool" sounds with no issues here.

Thanks for the freebie! I have to say, honestly, that this expansion is very hit and miss for me. There are some nice surprises in there, some welcome turns off the beaten path, some beautiful sounds, and quite a few patches I find totally unusable. The whole set feels like it needs to be curated and tweaked; some of the patches don't do very much at all, almost as if the work on them was abandoned. There are almost no options for dynamic playing, very little MW/AT/Breath implementations... and the cliched water drops in the "cups" section made me laugh as they were way overdone.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but... I can sort of see why it way released for free. Although there's some great stuff in there, it needs work.

Thanks alot for your reply Tasmaniandevil (you're a FANTASTIC audio designer btw!!) - I need to try again, but I am pretty confident that it never stopped, I had to kill the plugin for it to do so.tasmaniandevil wrote:I have tried the preset on a Mac. A note will play for roughly around 15 seconds.

It does puzzle me however, since one should believe that the calculations behind the audio synthesis should be very non-platform specific and thus not really touched in the porting process.
But I'll give it another go before I send in a report!

Uhh, don't make me blush.Beamboom wrote:Thanks alot for your reply Tasmaniandevil (you're a FANTASTIC audio designer btw!!)
Yes, please try again. And if it plays forever, maybe best to write a short mail to support at u-he, to let us know, so we can then let our Linux wizard have a look at it.Beamboom wrote:But I'll give it another go before I send in a report!

No, I was wrong. I am sorry.
It just sounds like it's stuck during the period and it plays out at full length even if I just barely touch the key, and that's just not how I am used to things behaving.
So I probably just freaked out and killed it before it reached the end. My bad!

Yep, that's the nature of the 'one shot' mode of the envelope.Beamboom wrote:it plays out at full length even if I just barely touch the key

Well, I'm a bit late to the party, but I have to say, this soundset is great!
