I've been digging through MAutoVolume threads trying to pick up tips and got to thinking how useful some Presets would be for this plugin. I noticed the button at the bottom of the Presets page, and got to RTFMing again to find out about it.

So, is the Preset Exchange active and are there MAutoVolume presets there? (Not sure I can produce a decent enough one at this point, but I'm sure willing to try if some are "out there".

Quick question - in order to "refresh" and pick up any NEW presets from the exchange, I will need to submit another, right? It doesn't automatically sync or anything, does it?

OK, two questions - if I submit a preset for one plugin, do I get presets for other plugins as well, or only the one that I submitted?

I think you get a random preset from the plugin you send your preset if I remember.
I wish they would be accessible. Not everybody has time to make tons of presets to get more. It's a vicious circle you need more presets to be more efficient in your mix sessions but you need to do presets to get presets to be efficient...
I love making presets but when time is an issue it gets to the bottom of the priority list. So what happens is I buy plugins or presets from other companies even though I would like to encourage Melda.
They should at least be accessible to be bought. But that does'nt look good for business if default presets need to be bought. I'd pay for them anyway.

Maybe a lifetime preset update for 20-30 $ or something ?

If you send just 1 preset, you get ALL of the presets for that plugin.

If I got to choose, I would have it so that you can download all of them without having to upload one.
I guess I can understand why it is this way, to encourage people to contribute.
But I believe there are enough people submitting good presets and would like to share them with others (more easily without conditions)

This is a ridiculous system imho, I have never used it, not once.

....rant...not everyone can come up with a useful preset worth sharing.

Couldn't you just send anyting, no matter if it's useful or not?

I tried a couple - I hope they're good enough. But I often use presets to learn a plugin which was kind of the point of the post. I certainly understand the sentiment to get everyone to contribute, or try to, just a little...

I did it only once and received only one preset therefore I assumed I had to make one to get one. Makes more sense now.

The thing is, originally it was free for everyone and guess what - nobody made presets and everyone was asking when there will be more

. So, that didn't really work as community tool. Paying for that? I don't think that's a good idea at all - it's a community tool, that lets you share the stuff and if you do share you get stuff from others as well. Paying for that would be imho not exactly ethical on our side, yet there's no other way to make people create presets. Anyways you don't really need that for plugins like MAutoVolume, where you usually need to set it up to the actual material.

I understand the need for an incentive to create presets, but the unfortunate effect (pun) is that the new user who needs good presets the most is the user least able to obtain them, because they are the least able to create good ones.

At least I think this is the case for the effect that I just bought, MModernCompressor. By the time someone learns the ins and outs of a compressor plug-in enough to make a useful preset for other people to use, I wonder if they will have a use for other people's presets.

Of course this will be different for things like flangers and ring modulators.

I can't think of any better way except maybe having a monthly contest or something like that, and I suspect that there is no administrative labor available for such a thing.

I agree. It should be unlocked again.

Sorry won't happen. Perhaps it could be unlocked for MCompleteBundle users though, as some incentive. Ill think about that one. Anyways there ARE presets, but this is a community tool, if you don't want to participate, then you cannot use it. I already spent way too much time explaining why this needs to work like this, sorry.

Most companies actually go out of their way to pay 3rd party developers to create
high quality presets for their products, which they include with the plugin.
This practice is often a selling point infact. I guess not only, does Melda consider it out of
the question to have to spend any money to provide it's customers with high quality
professionally designed preset content, they also consider easy access to community
created presets something that should be reserved only for those who are paying
them the most. Very nice...
