[REAPER] v 5.50 new features (automation items, more..)

automation items are nice. Not a fan of how Reaper is doing it, but hey at least they have it. Funny how FLStudio has stuff like this down in spades, but other hosts simply fail at the implementation and make it way too hard and miss the features that make it truly easy and useful.

can create CC based automation clips in Cubase too, needs only a MIDI track with its lanes

they can be stretched/reversed/ghosted/soloed as normal MIDI clips/tracks etc. track versions also working on them, so it's nice

but you can't put them in a pool for use in any project. At least if you can, I don't know where that feature is. You can't use things like LFO tools, at least not as simply or efficiently. The drawing tools are a bit primitive in Cubase. So again as I said. It's just odd that so many DAWs dance around this feature, but don't seem to get it right.xbitz wrote:can create CC based automation clips in Cubase too, needs only a MIDI track with its lanes

can be exported as MIDI files should drag the track to desktop or to any folder (can be load back using mediabay), checked the forum and yepp "Just drag the track to desktop! "SJ_Digriz wrote: but you can't put them in a pool for use in any project.

Massive Modular skin of Zebra/ify

is very good modular/modulation plugin definitely a must have for Cubase and Reaper too, none of them have such a feature (easy handling parallel fx chain plugin), far easier to handling than Reaktor ect. like plugins, and has beautiful look ( http://plugmon.org/massive-modular/ )

Ok, yes you can do some convoluted self help version of a pool. My point is that a couple of hosts have it right and simple. It is a mess in most hosts, Cubase included. Look I'm a Cubase user and can't stand Reaper or FLStudio. The Reaper version of this is terrible, however they have added the "pool" concept which is the correct/simple/efficient way to deal with automation clips. I'm just pointing out that the FLStudio version of automation clips and heck automation creation in general is vastly superior to Cubase or Reaper.xbitz wrote: can be exported as MIDI files should drag the track to desktop or to any folder (can be load back using mediabay), checked the forum and yepp "Just drag the track to desktop! Speedrum 2 is a hidden gem.

the problem is little more complicated
both Reaper, Cubase, S1, Sonar etc. needs third party plugin for these things ... found Zebrify is quite good candidate, see above

Basically you could make an MIDI event with the automation you want to save. You can then save the event as a MIDI file in Mediabay. No drag to desktop required. You could do the same with an audio archive. It's a ridiculously tedious and cumbersome approach to do something simple. Especially all the steps and no use tracke creation required to bring the events back to use in your project.yellowmix wrote:Can you explain how?

that doesn't help you get it back into the project conveniently. Actually MIDI loops would be worse as there are instrument associations you don't want.
Basically, there is no way to independently deal with automation events from a "saving/restoring" standpoint.

personally I'm using MUX Modular (as AL device rack equivalent) instrument containers so it's not a problem ... for meSJ_Digriz wrote:that doesn't help you get it back into the project conveniently. Actually MIDI loops would be worse as there are instrument associations you don't want.

I like how the topic is REAPER 5.50 and the discussion is about Cubase and FL Studio.
Anyways, thanks for sharing my video @Chris-S
