Hi there, I'm a new Waveform user, and I'm looking to see if there's a way to do this with Waveform...

Basically, some way of exploding out each note to a separate track. I.e. all C3s to one track, all D4s to another, etc. This is useful when taking e.g. a drum pattern and isolating each instrument out to be separately edited.

Cakewalk used to have this feature:

It is incredibly useful when editing percussion patterns generally.

I don't think it can be done automatically, but you can do it manually within one midi editor. Create as many empty midi clips as you need on separate tracks, then select all those clips and the clip with the notes in it. Open the midi editor and then select notes of the same pitch using CTRL + click on the midi editor keyboard (Make sure clip with notes is selected on right hand list). Cut to clipboard with CTRL + X. Highlight the clip you want to paste to in the list on the right hand side then paste with CTRL + V, making sure cursor is at the start of the clip. Repeat for notes of other pitches.

Another alternative might be to send the data to multiple tracks, and put a MIDI-filter vst before the instrument, and block out all notes except the ones you want; but you'd have to do it on each track (or within a rack; but then it all sits in one track, so possibly more complex to mix).

If this is a one-time thing, easier to do as AGreen suggests. If you're constantly getting MIDI track data like this, then the filter might be the way to go.

Oh, and another would be to put the bank of filters IN a rack, with the outputs sent to multiple tracks - that way you can copy it more easily from project to project... ?
