I have been using Melda stuff for a long while but never had this installation error message before.

Could not rewrite file

C:/WINDOWS/MeldaProductionAudioKernalV11.dll

Nothings running, checked admin permissions and read/write status, rebooted - nothing works.

Any ideas?

Interestingly I was just installing melda plugins on a fresh new machine and had exactly the same issue. I presumed it was something on our side as I've not had this issue before, but your message makes me now think there's more to this.

Thanks - always nice to know you are not alone. :?

Try running the exe as administrator, that's probably it as the installer needs permission to write to ProgramFiles

Same thing here! Windows 10 Creators Update

Running as Admin works! Thank you!

Works here too. Thanks.

I know! There have been several cases like this lately... like some kind of new "security" thing in Windows or something... Let me guess you are all using Win 10, right? Strange thing is, that here it works on all computers without problems... Anyways all you need to do is right click and select run as administrator, but it's crazy...

For my issue above, it was a very fresh install with the latest Windows update for a new sound designer that just started at my studio. I also built a new machine for myself about 3 weeks ago and did not have this problem, so it may be a very recent Windows update.

I suppose so! Thanks for the info!

Hi master Melda

it is not the best practice to put your core DLLs to the Windows directory (neither that security subdirectory on top). Both get lost with each inplace upgrade of Windows 10, which happens each 6 months as we know. Also it creates security issues with the Installer, as you see. Why not just put the main DLLs to c:/ProgramData/Melda.... where they belong in such a case? Eliminates all these problems at once

Hi Lorenz,

true, and with the next major update it will be moved to ProgramData. The thing is, it's actually quite complicated to do this... anyways already implemented and seems working fine.

Hi :-)

sounds great! Yes, surely more complicated because of access rights, but given all the other shortcomings of having it in /Windows, it´s a better idea to do it via ProgramData (that´s how all the other developers do it too for their "core" DLLs if they do not reside within the VstPlugins directory).

Cheers :-)

Yes. The thing is, most of the ways to do this are imho far more messier and more dangerous than just placing it into C:/Windows. But yeah, the recent Windows updates made things rather problematic...
