I have a nearly finished track I'm working on, and was going to add a small guitar part this afternoon. Strat direct into the board, which I do all the time with no problems.
Except this time. I enabled the input and immediately noticed a lag, like a 50-60ms latency. Couldnt' figure out why and when I tried to record anyway, when I hit the record button, my CPU shot from 23% to 90% and froze. I tried several times and got the same result.
Any ideas what's going on?

Not something else running in the background, perhaps? I have Avira anti-virus and every now and then it runs something CPU intensive and sends the mouse stupid. I was playing a game last night when it started (maybe the Software Updater or System Speedup thing), so I tried to stop the process via the Task Manager, but it wouldn't, so I had to wait, all the while vowing to replace Avira and it's random acts of violence.
