tracktion recently started crashing right after it opens. it gets all the way through the startup sequence, loading plugins and so forth, and unexpectedly quits about a second after the projects screen pops up. i am using the most recent tracktion version, built on 16 june 2004, and it was working fine. i just upgraded to waves v5, so i would guess that that is the source of the problem, but i wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or knows how to fix it.
thanks

It sounds like you may have answered your own question. Remove the plug and from your Library/audio/plug-ins/___ and see if Tracktion loads ok.
I see a number of posts about problems on the mac that could be related to permissions problems. I recommend a free utility called Onyx that does a great job combining persmissions repairing with cache and swap file clean-up.

Meanwhile, it's worth your time to run the disc repair permissions from applications/utility/disc utility.

tracktion does load ok without the v5 vst waveshell in the vst folder, so i suppose that does confirm that it's related to waves v5. v4 worked fine. i contacted waves support about it, so we'll see what they have to say.
cubase works fine with v5 vst plugins.
i tried repairing disk permissions, but it didn't help. thanks for the onyx link. that didn't fix the problem either but it's a nice utility to know about.

waves support responded:
"Waves V5 does not support "Tracktion" as a compatible Host application."
i guess by putting the name between inverted commas they wanted to make clear that tracktion is not something they can be expected to have heard of.
oh well. hopefully i'll be able to roll back to v4, since there is very little enhanced functionality in v5.

Wow what a bunch of A-holes. I guess Tracktion aint "Pro" enough for them (By which I mean over priced). Ah well. I like the Voxengo stuff better anyways.bowings wrote:waves support responded:

Can I suggest you forward that to Jules or Mackie. It seems like Waves need reminding that Tracktion is an app with a serious company behind it.bowings wrote: "Waves V5 does not support "Tracktion" as a compatible Host application."
Not to mention the fact that VST compatibility means not getting to pick and choose your hosts.

on a positive note, i got tracktion to work with waves v4, while other hosts use v5, so i'm basically content. and i'd be happy to inform whoever people think would be interested in knowing about waves's non-support. after a quick look at mackie's and raw material's sites, support@mackie.com seems a bit of a broad field, and i don't how to inform jules / raw material other than by posting here. this is where all the information is after all...
