MDrummer: should the channel be remembered by the DAW ?

After using channel # 2, closing the session, exiting Bitwig, restarting Bitwig, loading the session, MDrummer is at channel # 1. Should it be at channel # 2 ?
Cheers.
Cheers.

Hehe it probably should, but isn't that a question for Bitwig?
MDrummer is just a plugin, where the DAW opens it is out of its hands of course.

Well, yes, it's part of the Bitwig package. Although before sending it to them I wanted to know what the expected behaviour is. I mean, if for some reason it's not the case, I don't want to push an invalid statement, as this will bring confusion.
So I get it that in common use MDrummer should start with whichever channel it was using last. That would be the case in main DAWs, isn't it ?
I have other plugins that restart without the last patch it was using in Bitwig, but restarts OK in Mixbus32C. So maybe this falls into the same category.
In general, isn't it up to the DAW to launch a plugin with any existing set of parameters ? If I modify a synth's cutoff and don't save the mod as a new patch, when I restart Bitwig and that session, the synth will be still having the cutoff at the value I have set. I do not think that all synths are saving their last state, do they ? Is that part of a standard ?
Cheers.

Hey mevia, same thing in Reaper so probably not a Bitwig thing.
In Reaper everything else is saved along with the project...drumset, all the little settings, even the tab you last had open....but not the Rhythm channel...always opens to Rhythm 1. Maybe when Vojtech programmed it he was thinking that there would always be at least a Rhythm 1 so may as well open to that (but of course you want it to open to Rhythm 2 as explained in the other thread). Sorry Vojtech, I'm just guessing here? But anyway, Rhythm 2 will still exist intact...just have to select it...so not a big problem, but yes, just this one exception seems anomalous.

Oh, you mean the selected rhythm channel in the GUI?
I assumed you mean the MIDI channel used to control rhythms

Yes, those channels. Aren't they the same as MIDI channels ?MeldaProduction wrote:Oh, you mean the selected rhythm channel in the GUI?I assumed you mean the MIDI channel used to control rhythms

Actually no, rhythm channels are controlled by MIDI channels of the same number that's it, and here we are only talking about GUI, aren't we? (or I misunderstood again?

Well, not only the UI. When recalling a saved Bitwig session that was saved with MDrummer using rhythm channel 2, MDrummer will be brought up with rhythm channel 1 instead of 2. So I presume that Bitwig did not save that information as part of the session, but as goldglob replied, the same thing happens with Reaper.MeldaProduction wrote:Actually no, rhythm channels are controlled by MIDI channels of the same number that's it, and here we are only talking about GUI, aren't we? Just want to know what the correct behaviour should regarding bringing up a saved MDrummer. Maybe MDrummer is always brought up with rhythm channel 1 no matter what. Before I submit a bug report to Bitwig about the problem you've recently discovered. Don't want to confuse them with what is not an issue on their side.
Cheers.

Well, now I'm even more confused. Please tell me exactly step by step what you are refering to by "MDrummer will be brought up with rhythm channel 1 instead of 2". But to answer the other question - if you arrange something in your host using as many rhythms you need and whatever settings, when you load the project afterwards, everything should be exactly the same of course. Seems working here. I believe goldglob was refering to the fact, that while the settings are the same after the load, if you worked on rhythm 2 last time, MDrummer will open its GUI with rhythm 1 selected anyways, which isn't a big deal, since you just click on number 2

Yes, and he replied that to echo what I first described.MeldaProduction wrote: I believe goldglob was refering to the fact, that while the settings are the same after the load, if you worked on rhythm 2 last time, MDrummer will open its GUI with rhythm 1 selected anyways, which isn't a big deal, since you just click on number 2.
So the circle is now complete.
And at the same time the question was just answered above.
Cheers.

If there is still some confusion (and there is here
), please post a screenshot showing the channels you are referring to.

Bitwig will be releasing a 2.4 update soon, in which there was so work done regarding MIDI. I'll wait for the update before submitting a bug report regarding the MIDI channel use (sends channel + 1 instead of simply channel) and MDrummer.
Cheers.
Cheers.
