A little overwhelmed with the number of controls. Is the default setting supposed to emulate anything in particular? Was it intended for the master bus or individual tracks?

Thanks

I can recommend this 3 part video tutorial on youtube. This tutorial is made by U-he themselves. It's not that long but well worth watching. Each episode is about 15 minutes.

To answer your question, the default setting is—as far as I understand—an attempt to be as neutral as possible, replicating no specific tape machine and tweaked towards no specific task and, instead, providing a sort of "platonic ideal" of a modern tape deck.

Thanks you -- the first video answered my question. He starts with the default setting on every track at 6:44. I just wanted to make sure doing that wasn't overkill. I'm not advanced enough to really tell how all the different parameters are affecting the sound so that's good enough for me, for now!

@anstahc: You should also take some time and explore the presets. They provide a good overview about some general sonic possibilities of the plug in.

I made that default setting during development in an attempt to have a transparent yet mildly colouring tool at hand, which you can slap on any track or bus insert during a mix for an 'instant analogue' effect. Choosing NAB as the eq curve and quite some head bump was personal preference, since a like that slight low-freq oomph. But I'd recommend to check that if it's not too much when put across multiple tracks, as all those things accumulate.
