Rule of thumb for adding custom shape points when some already automated?

When points within a custom shape are already attached to a controller, it looks like I can add points to the right of any automated ones without breaking anything, but if I add them to the left of any point controlled by a MP or modulator, it causes problems with the existing control system.

I'm assuming this is due to the numbering system of the points. I tried adding new points to the right, then moving those points to the left, but this doesn't work as they can't pass each other.

Is there some rule of thumb for adding points to a custom shape where some points are already assigned to modulators or MP's?

Here's a quick example to illustrate the issue I'm addressing:

Open Mod1, and look at the preview. Move MP2 to see the control of the points. Open the custom shape window for Mod1. Add a point somewhere on the left. Move MP2 again.

Code: Select all

This behaviour is normal. I think you already have a good understanding of this.
The points are simply in numerical order and if you add a new point it just adds the next number.
It needs to be like this for modulation reasons.
Just carry on the way you are, Sometimes it can mean extra work to simply add just 1 more point in the middle somewhere, but you know, lifes a bitch.

I figured. Just thought I'd check to see if I was missing some other option.

Thx

Lesson learned for next time about making sure I have every point in order before I start wiring.
