Help with latency for audio inputs

Need some advice please. I am using tracktion 7.
I am running my bass from amp line out, into computer mic input. If I use windows driver, it works, but there is latency of course.
For my electronic drums, I used the AISO driver instead of windows, and it works well, not really any latency. However, if I try to use this driver for my input of the bass signal to the computer mic input, I get no sound.
Am I doing something wrong that i cant use that driver with the mic input?
Any other advice to reduce the latency for a line in instrument? I played with windows driver settings, I can reduce it but not eliminate the latency.
I was hoping I could switch to the other driver like I do for the drums, but when I do, I get no sound from the input any longer.
Thanks!

Almost forgot to mention.....I have a second question.
Is there an easy way to search this forum? I found the search at the top, but not getting good results.
UPDATE - nevermind, I see it now that I am registered.

the computer mic input is not a good solution. it may suffice for some game headphones ...acetrebo wrote:Need some advice please. I am using tracktion 7.

if you want to record instrument-/micsignals with decent quality, you should invest in an audiointerface with asio-drivers. i don't know where you are from, but prices start at ca. 50$/70€.
most of them have mic and line inputs and use usb as connection to the pc.

Well, the headphones would use a line out. A small mic would use the line in.
You might consider using a quarter-inch jack to USB cable. Most are inexpensive, although some are not free of latency. There are a good number that work quite well.

I figured it out.....
I had to go into the control panel of the ASIO driver, and enable the mic input. I had to do the same with my usb microphone.
Now I am able to get both a direct in, and a microphone in, on 2 separate inputs and record both at the same time, and there is 0 latency with the asio driver.

Excellent! Glad it's working for you. And at no cost!
