See subject line: Waveform 9 crashes on start-up, if the a previously connected MIDI device is not connected.
I'm on Ubuntu 18.04.

Are you sure this isn't to do with the curl issues we've been having?
Can you update to 9.3.4 from your downloads area and see if the problem persists please?

Will do - I'm currently on 9.3.2.
If it was the libcurl issue, it would not run at all though, would it? It does run fine once the MIDI device (keyboard controller) is connected again.
