Hello,

I've been wondering if it's already possible to what Reformer does with any of the Melda plugins. It reminds me of MDrumEnhancer but I could be totally off.

If it's not currently possible it would be great to have something like this in the Melda arsenal!!

Yes, it seems really interesting. I don't have Reformer, but from what I read it seems a sort of morphing to me. I suppose that MMorph can do many of those tasks (not analyzing your entire sound library as it doesn't include an automatic batch analyzer, and I am not sure if it can be used effectively with a live input from a microphone.)

I've been trying the demo and it seems like just a simple vocoder, although I don't understand why it would need to analyze the files then.

Offline is probably more preferable to Realtime I would Imagine due to the analysis algos.
E.g. Analysis of an entire file may be required or the process isnt optimised for Reatime usage

Why do something Realtime if its not required?

I'm pretty sure it's just a sample player that splits the samples into different intensities/volume. Then it takes an audio input and uses that to decide what samples to play, based on volume of input, crossfading between the samples as the volume changes.

I'm making something similar in reaper. You can't easily do it with melda, but maybe mdrummer in mxxx could.

I still think that MVocoder or MMorph, with the parameters set properly, would lead to similar results.

This. I agree. I have tested it and it sounds like a bunch of samples that get triggered depending on the amplitude and frequency of the incoming audio.

Cool, this Reformer looks interesting. Unfortunately iLok needed so a no-go for me. I am really looking forward to maybe a new sampler module for MSF and / or MXXX. I also will look into MXXX ... maybe it really could be possible with some MDrummer modules or so? Hm ... :)

After some further digging I don't think this is currently possible yet.
The way it seems to be working is by extrapolating the the amplitude of the files and pairing it with it's time index.
Then based on the loudness of the input it chooses and plays bits of all the files that have sections with a similar amplitude. It "stitches" together all these little bits in succession so that it sounds continuous.

Without offline analysis this ain't gonna work I'm afraid.

Is the effect very different from simply applying the amplitude envelope of the sidechain audio to the main incoming audio? I'm asking because this is possible with Melda plug-ins.

Thanks for confirming my correctness :D

Yeah, I recently made some tests with MDrumEnhancer, but the results are rather weird than authentic / useful. Still: MDrumEnhancer seems maaaybe work in a similar way? I am not sure. I could trigger some kind of sample-parts with my voice, while it sounded quite strange.

Any other thought? Maybe Vojtech has an idea if we could make such Reformer inside MXXX already? :)
