I have some spare change and I-was-a-lookin' firstly at the Virus given it's supposedly "changed electronic music as we know it"

but then I heard it and found it similar to most of the soft stuff I already'z got.

The Roland System 8 is one of the newest (for electronic) on the market and quite cheap, the arp is interesting and quite modulatable.

I should point out the type of music I intend to make has more of a Japanese sound, rather than a US/festival, similar to Yasutaka Nakata (perfume), CY8ER and the likes. After more of a 'future' sound.

So are there any benefits of having hard synths as opposed to soft that you know of? and which ones?

Can't comment hardware cuz don't use but in 2018 you've got huge list of software for edm so you better look for suitable soundbanks from original designers for vst synths you already have - independent sound designers again in the corners when it comes to sound ,despite 100% of all synth sounds are handmade and is 50 times cheaper.Bonzai

Me neither but I'd still love to have one.

Anyways, not much sense to buy Virus since Adam Szabos Viper (https://www.adamszabo.com/viper/) pretty much fills that space with 1/10th of the price.
What do you think by yourself? What does HW offer that SW doesn't? IMO hardware offers knobs and that's pretty much it.
Rest is arguing about "which sounds better" but for me all synths (hw or sw) just offer different flavors. Analog gear offer some basic (saw, square, pulse, triangle, sine) sounds with certain kind of richness and punch that I don't really hear in software world (at least similar) but software offers you tools to go crazy that is just impossible with analog gear. Of course there are wavetable synths in hardware world too but IMO they just offer different kind of rawness (Blofeld I love you).

Soooooo then we come to workflow.. Do you really want to record everything and then process in your DAW? Much easier (and cheaper) to toss 20 channels of synthmaster than record those 20 channels one by one with your hardware.

This reminds me that I should order that Trueno synth now.. Best of both worlds
