I've been a follower and a fan of U-he synths for quite some years now. These days I'm mostly hardware mono/modular but I keep my U-he stuff (and a few others) around for poly purposes. A couple years ago, I gifted Zebra and Hive to a friend of mine who had fallen on hard times and had to sell most of his stuff. It really made his holiday.
This year a coworker came up to me saying his kid wants to be a DJ with one of those electric clown hats and wanted to know if I knew anything about it. I started talking to him about grid controllers and Ableton Live. I told him I had a drawer of old controllers that got shut away when I got my Push and I would give him one of those (Launchpad Mini) and a copy of Live Lite. Black Friday rolled around and I ended up getting a Push 2 so now I'm going to gift him my Push 1 and Live Intro (a little better than Lite).
Since Intro comes pretty stripped but has the ability to VST, I was like... U-he has some free shit. So today I've been looking at some available options including BazilleCM, ZebraCM, Tyrell N6 and Zebralette which will all be on my recommendation list to my colleague. I've been so engrossed in the stuff I already owned by U-he and the hardware I have, these synths had kinda fallen off my radar. I have to say, they sound really f**king good. I'm excited that I can help introduce my friend's kid to the exciting world of electronic music and synthesis with these great tools.
Thank you Urs and team and all the sound designers that contributed to these great synths. Thanks for helping to make someone's Christmas a little better and maybe, just maybe being the spark of creativity for the next generation.
Sincerely,
Mark aka gruvsyco aka the possible spiritual guide for future "DJ f**king clown hat".
