Scaling issues for VSTi's

Hi,

Yet another post regarding scaling issues of VSTi's (and large MUXes).

I just tried Arturia's new Pigments synth. When I open it in MuLab the bottom third is cut off (see image below [and sorry if it appears several times, there is something strange going on with attachments right now at KVR]), making it impossible for me to use this synth on my 14 inch laptop without connecting to my external monitor or changing display settings. (And if I do change display settings, everything else in MuLab becomes too small.)

I'm thinking that the top bar of MuLab's container window has A LOT of blank space on the right side, and this could be put to better use. In my case, what I really would like is a simple Scale dropdown menu, which would allow me to set values such as
  • Scale to fit
  • 100%
  • 75%
  • 50%
  • 25%
(I'm thinking that some users would appreciate a 25% setting when opening several windows at once in a live setting.)

In this case, the synth itself is large, but I get the same problem sometimes with VSTi's that default to max allowed space (like Unlimited and Transpire by Sonic Anomaly).

A plus would be if each synth/effect could recall its preferred scaling percentage, but if that takes time to implement, I'd settle for setting the scaling percentage every time I open the plugin.

To me this is really a major obstacle, which forces me to also work in other DAWs. I understand that well-implemented VST plugins should be able to scale themselves, but in my case I'd rather have a somewhat pixly synth than no synth at all...

I'm sorry but afaik it is technically not possible for a host DAW to rescale VST 2 plugins because that's something on VST editor side, the host DAW cannot control that.

Hi SparkySpark

I guess you have already tried the different scale options in Pigment.

On my Win64 system I had to set the Windows scaling back to 100% instead of 125% for the Arturia plugins to work in both Mulab and Bitwig. The simply won't display correctly otherwise.

Thanks Jo. I thought the "scalable GUIs" that all almost plugins brag about these days would let the plugin to scale to whatever width/height the current window had (as in being vector-based). But perhaps that's only VST3 then?

Oh - is there a scaling option? I looked around for a Settings pane but there are so many things going on in this beauty/beast :D that I just haven't found one yet (hints welcome ;)). That would indeed solve at least the present problem.

Thanks!
